Also, depending on the kind of network you use, there will be the signal but not very strong before the high altitude. On your request, we can provide you with a separate local sim card (Most of the places have wifi service available with an extra cost) for good access of connecting.

Note-  Normally Wi-Fi works every part of the trek in lodge/lodges which will be provided with an extra cost.

Extra personal expenses on trekking

Discovery World Trekking tries to provide all extra expenses excluded from the package. Meals and accommodations in Kathmandu is up to our clients themselves as all kind of hotels/lodges (both luxury & budget) can be booked easily online or even we can do it for on request. All our valuable clients will have to bring personal spending money with them to cover costs of accommodations in Kathmandu, visa process, travel insurance policy purchase, beverages, snacks for the trek, hot and cold drinks, tips to the trekking crew members, souvenirs etc. We recommend bringing cash (dollars) which can be changed to rupees here cause during the trek only Nepalese currency is accepted.

Electricity and battery recharge, water on the trek

Throughout the lodges at Everest base camp, electricity for the camera and mobile battery recharge is available with an extra cost in all lodges. Most of the lodges have hydroelectricity and some of them have used the solar panels. Water during the trek, you can buy either packed mineral water from local lodges and en route shop or filling boiled water at an extra cost. A water purification pill is will be provided to make water drinkable.

Note-  You shouldn't drink water from river, tap, well up there cause it might not be drinkable as it seems.

Travel insurance

This trip grade is ranked the challenging difficult as it entails the risk of high altitude trekking, potential altitude sickness and other unforeseen events including sudden climate changes.

Travel insurance is a significant part of our booking condition for The Everest base camp trek. All the members of trekking the must provide a copy of their comprehensive travel insurance policy certificate to Discovery World Trekking. The policy must cover medical and emergency repatriation inclusive of helicopter rescue and evacuation expenses at high altitude (up to 6000m) for trekking members.

We can recommend insurance companies to help you but we don’t directly get involved in the sale of insurance policy. Members can be refused to be included in the trekking based on insufficient, improper or absence of travel insurance policy.

Trekking members are kindly requested to send their detailed insurance information once they book for the trekking. In case of emergency situations, we will be using the insurance policy and informational documents you sent us. This will help us arrange a quick and effective rescue operation, transfer for emergency medical help etc. Please ensure that the insurance company includes the cost incurred for mountain rescue service at the highest elevation of the trekking.

Note- Before you buy travel insurance (Don't just believe them what they say in their website) make sure you call them and recheck if they have Heli-rescue and evacuation up to 6000m according to your trekking height.

Passport and visa

All foreigners except Indians, require a visa to enter Nepal. Visa is available on arrival in the Tribhuvan international airport. Visa can be extended at the central immigration office www.immigratiion.gov.np The visa application will require at least a passport of 6 months’ validity, and a passport size photo. The current cost of visa fee is the US $40 for 30 days which have to be paid in cash on arrival on Tribhuvan International Airport. Citizens of China and the SAARC countries will receive a free visa. There are certain countries (Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, and Afghanistan)that may not receive the visa on arrival and so you will have to contact your local Nepalese embassy.

Money exchange

Nepali Rupees (NPR/Rs) is the local currency.

(1 USD = ~ Rs.100 NPR).

We can exchange most of the foreign currencies through local banks and legitimate money exchanges in Kathmandu and all over Thamel. Small amounts of cash can also be exchanged at the hotel.

The ongoing rate of exchange is visibly displayed. The government of Nepal has banned the import, export and use of 500 and 1000 Indian Rupee note in Nepal. You should ensure that you are not carrying these notes on arrival in Nepal as they will be confiscated and you may also be fined.

Despite having security advantage of traveller's cheque, we prefer cash exchange to avoid hassles like a lengthy process and high rate of commission at the banks. You can withdraw cash (in Rupees only) from one of the many ATMs in Kathmandu and Thamel itself. There are quite several ATMs that are open around the clock. The maximum withdrawal amount is 35,000 Rupees for a 500 Rupees processing fee if you are using your foreign card.

If you use the money exchange facility at banks and financial institutions the service fee charge imposed is about four percent or more depending upon the bank.

During the trek, there are no banks and money exchange services so you should exchange your money in Kathmandu only, depending on how much personal expense you require as in Himalayan region people only accept Nepalese Currency

Note- Most of the established banks in Asia will not accept foreign currency notes that are old, torn or faded. Please ensure that you have new, clean notes

How Much Luggage can I take during Everest Base Camp Trek?

For the trek, we will be carrying all the necessary gears, equipment, and first aid kits. Our leaders and guides have vast knowledge and have extensive first aid training. If a trekker falls sick due to the altitude, it is entirely up to the trekker to decide if he/she will further continue as health is very important. 12 Day EBC Trek - Saroz is the best!

12 Day EBC Trek - Saroz is the best!

I did the 12 day Everest Base Camp Trek and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. The owner Paul was very good and thorough before the trek in helping me organise stuff such as tips on insurance, organising my airport transfer and running me through all the trip details in person before the trip to make me feel safe, relaxed and excited for the trek. My guide Saroz was amazing too! From taking me out in Kathmandu to pick up my rental jacket and sleeping bag, helping me buy last minute supplies and a SIM card, he was always there to help without complaint. On the trek itself, Saroz really looked after me. He was always attentive to my needs from meals to health and constantly checking on me to make sure I was alright and having an amazing trip. His knowledge of the area and local customs was amazing and his energy and warmth was second to none. I will never forget certain things like our gruelling trek up Kala Patthar (I don't think I would have made it if it wasn't for Saroz) or our regular nightly card games. Our porter, Lakman, was also amazing. He always had a smile on his face and a great energy to him which wouldn't be easy when you are carrying such a heavy load uphill every day. I will never forget my trek and I can't recommend Paul, Saroz, Lakman or Discovery World Trekking highly enough. For anyone looking for an awesome trekking experience in Nepal, go with Paul and the group at Discovery World Trekking and if you can, request Saroz as your guide. You will have an amazing time. Thanks so much Paul, Saroz, Lakman and Discovery!

10 days trekking to Mount Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar with Sherpa Dol and Discovery World Trekking

I can highly recommend Discovery World Trekking. Flawless arrangement from start to finish. Much thanks to the excellent Guide in charge; Sherpa Dol. I send a special thanks to Sherpa Dol; thank you for your extreme energy and patience, your calm methods, your insightful reflections and valuable guidance in the mountains. Without you Dol, we (and I dare to talk for our entire group here) could never have experienced Nepal as we did. Should I return for another trek I would definitely use Discovery World Trekking again, and specially would try to collaborate once again with Sherpa Dol. Your friend Andreas Wannerwall

Mount Everest Basecamp & Kallah Pattar - Discovery world Trekking

We had an absolutely fantastic 12days trip with guide Dol. we were a group of 6 friends, all having some experience with hiking but most of us had not been at similar altitude previously. With good guiding and relaxed athmosphere we all agree that it was an utterly beautiful experience. Food was good, and alot of shops along the way to buy neccessities - everything from soap, food, snack, sunscreen and clothes. Accomodation was allright, a bit cold at night. Can highly recommend very warm clothing for MEB and KP summit, as well as a deck of cards. Views are stunning and the hiking was not too physically demanding. Sun was out every day. We wrapped up with a day in kathmandu which was a fun way to end our Nepal experience. Could not recommend this trip more!

Just did the EBC 12 days trekking with the best company on the trek. Discovery World Trekking is the one company that organized everything from A to Z for me. Paul the manager/ owner was on top of every situation that I come across during the trekking. My Guide Raj and the porter Prem (I called him Michael) where absolutely amazing. They help me a lot during this expedition. If you plan to trek the EBC and want to succeed I highly recommend DWT (Discovery World Trekking) for this. Use the expert and be happy at the end. Thank you Paul, Raj, and Prem (Michael) For making this happen  Eli Cohen Los Angeles, California

You can read about this trek all over the web so ill use this space to talk about our experience with Discovery World. Working with Discovery World Trekking was an excellent and easy process. The founder Paul is extremely attentive and very dedicated to making sure you have the best trip possible. Aside from the obvious highlights of visiting Everest, a high point to our trip was our guide Saroz. Great personaility, extremely knowledgable of Nepal and made sure we always felt good, were fed and were having a great time. I highly recommend working with Paul and his team. Discovery World is a first class company.

Just returning from a 12-day trek to Everest Base Camp with Discovery world trekking. It was not just the trek that was regulated perfectly. Beforehand, my questions and e-mails were answered professionally, friendly and very quick. Scared at the beginning, we gained a lot of confidence by talking to Paul, through e-mail and personal meeting before the trek, thank you Paul! The service from this company, starting from the first e-mail contact ending with a goodbye-dinner makes us feel so welcome. Besides that, the extra’s like the medal we got on top of the basecamp (see picture) and the certificate after we finished the trek shows that the company too, feels proud to share this moment with you. A special thanks to our guide SAROZ, now our brother. He was professional, caring and above that, we had a lot of fun together. it was good to get to base camp with him on our side. He was so proud of us and enjoying the moment with us, he made our trek even more special! In the future I will hopefully trek with him again.

12 day Everest Basecamp Trek of a Lifetime (March 2018)

12 day Everest Basecamp Trek of a Lifetime (March 2018)

I have just completed the 12 day Everest Basecamp Trek with Discovery World Treking – it was truly the trek of a lifetime!  Paul from DWT made the trip easy. He organised everything down to the minute which left us with peace of mind and we could just enjoy the trek. No need to worry about meals, permits, accommodation, transfers, airfares, luggage and other things when Paul is looking after you!  Our guide Dol was also awesome. No question was too big or small. He went above and beyond to make sure this was a trek that we will never forget. His knowledge on the local cultures and nature really added another layer to the trek and gave us insights that only the locals possess.  My wife and I were the only people on the trek which was great as we could walk our own pace. The scenery is breathtaking and the trekking was not too hard.  It was an awesome feeling reaching Everest Basecamp after 9 days of climbing. You feel like you are on top of the world. Our guide Dol even provided is with a cool Everest medal to remember our achievement.  On the final day all flights from Lukla to Kathamandu were cancelled due to bad weather. Our international flight was the next day. Paul worked around the clock to make sure that we were on the first flight out of Lukla the next day and even negotiated a helicopter backup plan through his local connections. Paul really do care about their clients! All of the reviews are true :) It was also good to give my business to a local Nepali vendor who knows the ins and outs of the local industry.  Overall, the 12 day Everest trek was the best we have ever done. I highly recommend Discovery World Trekking!

12 day EBC trek

12 day EBC trek

While it’s quite a popular time to do the EBC trek, no one else signed up for the dates which I signed up for so I ended up at the trek solo with my guide Siddhanta and a porter (you need to request this if you are travelling solo as normally a porter is shared between two trekkers). I was a bit anxious in the beginning but there are a lot of trekkers en route which you will meet at tea lodges and while trekking easily, plus it turned out to be a good opportunity to spend more time with my guide and get to know Nepalese culture and traditions. My guide was also able to point out the names of all the peaks and mountains which i personally found very interesting. Finally, I got my own room (most of the times with two beds) as a result, and was able to flexibly alter the itinerary and follow my own pace with no pressure throughout the trek. Siddhanta went above and beyond his duties as when i got back to KTM relatively late in the day, there was no sightseeing guide available so he also personally showed me Thamel, Kathmandu Durbar Square and the monkey temple. I cannot thank him enough.  Paul, the company’s owner, was very responsive and helpful answering any questions I had prior to my trip. He was also there to pick me up from the airport and provide a full briefing the evening before the trek. He booked me on the first flight out of Lukla, which is also very helpful as normally the first flight out (both ways) has the best chance of departing. Note that ‘first flight’ comprises of 7 actual flights, 3 from Summit Air, 2 from Tara Air and 2 from Sita Air. From KTM, this is the 6am flight and from Lukla this is the 6.45am flight. Unfortunately we were only able to book on the second flight back so book your trip early and mention to be on the first flight if possible.  I have to give a big thumbs up to Siddhanta who helped me carry my bag and poles up to Kala Patthar when the altitude really got to me. Without him, I would have never made it to the top of KP. There are a lot of reviews saying that this trek can easily be done without a tour company to which I must disagree. First, if you are not ultra fit, carrying everything by yourself at such altitudes is extremely difficult. Second, with the help of my guide, I was able to pace accordingly every day as he explains the different parts of the routes clearly every evening. He also measures my oxygen level and heart rate every evening, and with 9 years of experience as a guide, was well equipped to let me know if he thinks altitude sickness is really kicking in, and arrange for the necessary repatriation or medication.  On the topic of repatriation, in general there is a lot of encouragement from tour companies (for reasons I will not elaborate here) to take heli rescue as trekkers are either lazy to walk back the same way they came from or they are worried about weather affecting flights out of Lukla. I will let you decide whether that is an appropriate course of action.  Finally I would recommend doing the EBC trek over 12 days instead of 10 unless you know for certain you are not affected by altitude at all. A few other tips is to always request for a blanket if not two when you get to a lodge. The sleeping bags provided by DWT were North Face and probably one of the warmest you can get but it does get very cold up on the mountains so request blankets and bring your own sleeping bag liner. Sleeping mats are not necessary. If you are travelling solo or in a small group? It is generally not possible to book rooms in advance so try to get to each lodge early, particularly for Lobuche and Gorek Shep where accommodation is more scarce. There is no need for purification tablets if you are willing to purchase bottled waters all the way. They are readily available at all lodges although can be quite expensive at the higher altitude camps. (Max 400 NPR per litre and on average 200 NPR) there are ensuite rooms available as well so worth requesting and paying a little more if you wish.

Discover Everest Base Camp with Discovery – you won’t be disappointed.

just got back from a trek to Everest Base Camp with Discovery and highly recommend booking a trek with them!  Aside from enchanting scenery, the trek to EBC gave us the chance to experience Sherpa culture, visiting monasteries, museums and witnessing mountain life for ourselves. I loved walking just for the pleasure of it, through villages, rhododendron forests, past colourful prayer wheels, across suspension bridges, behind yak trains and, my favourite, through valleys where the mountains circled us like the spine of a massive sleeping dragon.  At night, I loved sitting around the fire and listening to the guides and teahouse owners in animated conversations I didn’t understand but which were always lively and filled with laughter.  Our guide, Dol was wonderful. He was quiet and unassuming but also filled with knowledge about the region. I loved seeing his photos from other treks as well as learning about his life in Nepal and the village he where he grew up. It was also lovely having someone to take care of us. He chose excellent accommodation, made sure we were always looked after with tea and refreshments and set a good walking pace for the trek. We would not have had the same experiences if we’d set off alone and we definitely wouldn’t have learnt as much as we did about the Solukhumbu region, the Sherpa culture or the mountains themselves. Our porter was incredible too, always arriving before us so our bags were ready in our room and basically just a true champion like all the other amazing porters we witnessed on our journey. The trek to EBC is pretty unforgettable. Not only are you surrounded by breathtaking scenery every second of the day but you get to experience for yourself the amazingly warm hospitality of the Nepalese people, witness their unique way of life and carry with you the sense of personal achievement that comes with visiting the highest point on earth. If you do decide to take on the challenge Discovery is definitely the company to do it with.

I ll go back in France with beautiful memories and also a nice EBC medal and a customized certificate ! Thanks DWT!  I highly recommend it, best price with best service and safe trekking

Our Everest Experience

Our Everest Experience

Bringing myself and mum to do EBC, I needed to choose the best. On our orientation day after speaking with Paul and meeting Saroz, I knew I had picked the best company Discovery World Trekking. Paul made everything so easy and reassuring for mum and me. Paul explained everything even down to our diets, fluids, clothing. We left feeling on such a high with so much confidence. Saroz our guide meant us early in the morning of our flight and never left our side. Saroz made our trek to EBC so enjoyable with his knowledge and guidance along the way. Nothing was too much for him, I will be forever thankful for the way he cared and looked after my mum. We felt very safe under his guidance and I believe this enabled our trek to be achieved. We were so surprised and excited when we received a medal for making it to base camp, such a thoughtful surprise.  Thank you Paul and your special team of wonderful people for making our dream come true and more enjoyable. We have so many memories forever in our heart. I will be back for sure in this beautiful country and would not hesitate to use DWT again. Thanks again to the wonderful team at Discovery World Trekking

Lifetime dream come true, thanks to DWT

Lifetime dream come true, thanks to DWT

I have just completed a 12 day trek to EBC with my son. A special moment in my life I will cherish forever. David arranged the trek with DWT, from the very beginning he said the communication with Paul was excellent, nothing was too much for him. We meet Paul and my whole apprehension  of nerves was soon settled, he was a warm heartfull friendly person, ready to make our trek the best. Everything was arranged and we meet our guide Saroz. I felt straight away we were going to be fine as Saroz took the lead with his knowledge and experience he has. I felt he protected me all the way, never left my back. I felt his hand even when I had a slip in the loose gravel. David and him were mates from the start. The tea houses were the best, after a weary day of trekking all we had to do was take a seat and Saroz had everything taken care of, even a treat of fruit every night. Our porter never let us down either , happy face always A special moment also was a medal presentation when base camp was finally reached, it was very special and lifted our weary spirits. The photos and memories I hold in my heart will stay forever thanks to DWT Thanks again to the team at DWT, would highly recommend them if you are considering a trek in Nepal or any other adventure. ??

EBC Trek, Five-Star Experience

EBC Trek, Five-Star Experience

Hiked EBC (Everest Base Camp) for 12 days mid-May to early June. Discovery World definitely is a level higher than the other guided and overall service. Here are top few tips  1. Discover World guide, Soroz, took great pride in his daily work as guide and made sure you felt comfortable and provided better than average attentiveness to us...we were never rushed likewe saw others wereo and worked with us on the timing for each day so we fully enjoyed the hike.. Obvious difference when you look at other guide compared to Soroz 2. Take the 12 day option, you will need the time to acclimitize. Paul, owner, meets with you in person and goes through the itinerary and answers any questions first hand prior to leaving Khatmandu  3. Having a guide gives you relief in case of altitude sickness, and a person like Soroz who has traveled the path many times... We saw a lot of disoriented hikers attempting to do the trail solo, stand around and wait to see what the guides do... Possible yes solo, but the trail is not clearly marked in several key areas, easy to go wrong direction, and we saw several others get air lifted out in higher elevation 4. Give yourself a definite buffer of attitude least two days on either end of the hike... Flights are not guaranteed into or out of Lukla. Budget extra $200-$500 for added flight needs. Paul was great to help make alternate arrangements when we had difficulties getting out of Lukla 5. Budget about $25 per day while on the trail even though breakfast, lunch, dinner are covered... You will need added supplies, food, tea, etc purchased at some point. Snacks are also lrovided on the trail by Discovery World, no need to take many with you.  6. Water is very treatable by Steri UV pen. Soroz was great to make sure we had plenty of water each day from the lodge kitchen, very important for altitude. Don't bring too many water containers, we carried a camel back and added 1liter bottle and were more than fine from one stop to the next.  7. When altitude sickness symptoms started Soroz suggested local remedy of garlic soup that worked wonders, and was attentive to make sure I felt right checking on me while in my room and throughout the night at dinner time.  Great company and great experience capped with genuine enthusiasm for us when we arrived to base camp! Paul also arranges a lot of your transportation in town to and from airport which was great. Will book next expedition in Himalayas with Discovery World.

“EBC trek - as awesome as it can get”

“EBC trek - as awesome as it can get”

Like all my holiday plans…. the panics and anxiety set in after we have made the decision to go on this adventure. Not going to say that this was an easy trek for me personally. But luckily, we had the DWT team on our side making things a lot easier from the start to finish. A friend had highly recommended to contact Paul from Nepal to organise our trip and must I say that it was one of the easiest and personalised experience I've ever had. From the get-go we had all the information that we need to plan the trip (eg. Maps and itinerary) and Paul was very responsive with all our inquiries (including how much money should we bring and how much training should we do). The trek was very enjoyable and we even learned some Nepalese along the way. I have a lot to thank our guide and assistant guide (aka photographers, waiters, Nepalese teachers and everything else!) Dil and Kubir, whom were very friendly and knowledgeable and our speedy and smiley porter, Diraj, we couldn’t have made it up there without these guys. Dil was very patience, observant and had been checking up on us all the way up making sure of any sign of illness is caught early. He would constantly update Paul back in Kathmandu to ensure that help is ready should we ever need one. As we got higher, the altitude sickness did get the better of me and I was struggling to complete the trek. If it wasn’t for Dil encouraging me along the way and kept me companied as I walk at snail pace towards the end, I probably wouldn’t have made it back from EBC to our lodge on our day 8. It got so bad that I was sure I would need a helicopter to pick me up from EBC. Like Murphy’s law… I was air lifted out from Gorak Shep the next day and managed to lose my wallet while running to the helicopter. Paul took good care of us from airport pickup, help with money exchange at a good rate, coordinating with the insurance and helicopter rescue, making sure my hospital stay was as comfortable as possible, helping with reporting my lost wallet to the police and even took out to dinner on our last day. The experience on the trip was definitely one of the best and easily most memorable. I would highly recommend Discovery World for the trekking trip in Nepal. Remember to ask for Paul from Nepal. :) Pros:- - Hassle free booking - Informative and friendly guides - Local knowledge (eg food place and shopping areas) - Personalised service Tips for future trek:- - Would be useful to have a packing list (would recommend to take a few types of medicine eg. antibiotics, cold meds, antihistamine, throat lozenges, etc); - Information on accommodation facilities (ie hot shower or potential laundry stop, limited running water, etc.) - Make sure your insurance covers search and rescue (eg helicopter rescue) and medical expenses. I used Travel insurance direct, TID (AUS).

“Excellent Everest Base Camp Trek! What a Journey (11 Days)”

“Excellent Everest Base Camp Trek! What a Journey (11 Days)”

After graduating, I wanted to do something that will be my ultimate travel and experience before start working, to go to the Everest Base Camp. so in short notice, I've been inquiring with several trekking companies but surprisingly Discovery World Trekking seemed the only company that responded well, fast and very excited of making my dream come true. After emailing and discussing plan and itinerary for the journey, everything went smooth and I was set to go! Unfortunately when I arrived at KTM airport, I didn't received my checked-in luggage after hours of waiting. I went out to be greeted with Paul, the owner and founder of Discovery World Trekking alongside side with Dil. They helped me to sort things out with my missing luggage and provided me with an assistance until I received my luggage the next day. The hotel I was staying was Tibet Guest House it was amazing and very comfortable! throughout the journey, Dil who was my guide has become a very good company and friend. He took care of me very well, attentive in every detail and I couldn't be more than happier to trek with him. He knows the route well, telling me about the stories and cultures, the people, food and so many things! He is the person, a friend and a guide that you would want to travel with! All through the journey the experience was great! the teahouses that we stayed was very comfortable, clean and nice! Especially after hours of trekking I bet you will be looking forward to that! Food was excellent and I could pick anything from the menu, that was a privilege on how one should enjoy the journey. 13 days of trekking Paul kept in touch with me and Dil, asking how everything went, motivating me and I felt looked after all throughout the trek and afterwards! If you're looking for a reputable, friendly, fun, enthusiastic and professional trekking company in Nepal, I would highly recommend Discovery World Trekking, they win in so many aspect, they did volunteering with the Discovery Channel in fact you would want to and will be helping a local operator especially because Nepal is recovering post earthquake. Im looking forward to trek with Discovery World trekking in the future especially with Paul and Dil! I wish DWT team all the best and thank you so much, they are the best!
