Online Trip Briefing
The online briefing will clear all your doubts about the trek, including things to bring (equipment checklist) for the hike, the itinerary details, and what you can expect on the trails. As soon as you complete the booking, we will email you the available date and time for the trek briefing. Please note that we conduct trip briefing only once either online or in person.
Lukla Flight Information
There might be slight alterations to the trek itinerary, mainly during peak trek seasons (March, April, May, October, and November), as the flight to Lukla will be from Ramechhap/Manthali instead of Kathmandu due to traffic congestion. At other times, the flight will be from Kathmandu. To catch a flight from Ramechhap, we must leave Kathmandu and head to Manthali around 12:30 a.m. on the scheduled departure date. The drive will take around five hours.
Comprehensive Tour Package Details
The Everest Base Camp Trek 12 days with EBC destination starts with a scenic 40-minute flight to Lukla, followed by a short trip to Phakding (2,610m/ 8,562ft). On your trail, you will find yourself surrounded by gigantic mountains, and as you progress, you will reach Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,268ft) - our destination for that day. You will acclimatize for a day at Namche Bazar.
The next day you will leave Namche Bazaar and trek to Tengboche - the village famous for Tengboche Monastery (3,867m / 12,687ft). After spending the night at Tengboche, you will wake up early the following morning and continue the trek to Dingboche (4,410m / 14,470ft).
You will have gained a remarkable altitude as you arrive at Dingboche. So, we have allocated the next day for acclimatization at Dingboche. After spending a day at Dingboche for rest and recharge, you will trek to Lobuche the next day.
An exciting path awaits as you ascend via Thukla Pass and reach the memorial park built to commemorate those who could not make it from this region. Your destination awaits a little further at Lobuche (4,940m / 16,210ft), where you will spend the night.
The eighth day of your hike to Everest Base Camp Trek will be an extraordinary one because, on this day, you will reach Everest Base Camp. The Everest Base Camp height is 5,364m (17,598ft). But we start in the morning, leave Lobuche, move along the Khumbu Glacier, and arrive at Gorak Shep. Here, we will leave our belongings and climb Mount Everest Base Camp.
Reaching this spectacular destination is a life-changing experience. Finally, your determination and willingness to endure difficulties will have triumphed, and you can count yourself among the very few people who have reached the EBC. From the destination, among other views, you will see Khumbu Glacier - the world's deepest glacier at 4,900m (16,100ft). After enjoying the view from the top of Mount Everest Base Camp, you will return to Gorak Shep.
Early the next day, you will ascend to Kala Patthar (5,555m / 18,208ft) to catch the heavenly glances of the early sun rays hitting Mount Everest. You will descend back to Gorak Shep, have our breakfast, and head to Pheriche. Since you will have covered a long distance, you will spend that night at Pheriche. From Pheriche, you will retrace your path to Lukla.
If everything goes as planned (depending on the weather), you will finish the Everest Base Camp Trek in 12 days and fly back to Kathmandu via Lukla Airport in the following morning.

DWT recommends all our valuable clients arrive at Kathmandu as early as possible, at least one day before the trek departure date, for last-minute preparations. If in case you missed the online trip briefing, it will allow us time to conduct an in-person briefing. The flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and Lukla to Kathmandu may get delayed due to the weather. In such cases, we reschedule these flights to the next available flight. So, we suggest our clients add at least 2 extra days as a cushion to the trip to avoid international flight delays back to their home country.

During March, April, May, September, October, and November flights from Kathmandu to Lukla could be rerouted to Manthali Airport. To catch an early morning Lukla flight from Manthali, we will pick you up from your hotel around 12:30 am and embark on a 5-hour drive to Manthali Airport. The flight from Manthali to Lukla lasts about 20 minutes. In other months (December, January, February, June, July, and August), you will fly from Kathmandu to Lukla directly.
By booking a helicopter from Kathmandu to Lukla, you can skip the extended drive to Manthali, though helicopter booking fees cost around 550 USD each when divided among five people.
Your journey starts after landing at the Lukla Airport. We will collect ourselves at Lukla and trek to Phakding. On the way, you will pass through Chaurikharka Village. This trek also helps you acclimatize. As the trek will be short, we will take you to local monasteries around Phakding - especially Rimishung Monastery.

The views from our path are stunning. As we cross many suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River, including the Hillary Suspension Bridge, we get a sense of wilderness and proximity to nature. The path ahead will lead us to the Sagarmatha National Park, where we will get our permits registered and head towards the dense forest from where we will get the first glances of Mt. Everest. But the destination for that day is Namche Bazaar, also known as the gateway to Everest.

Rest day and acclimatization at Namche Bazaar
To make sure that your body adapts to heights, we will be staying at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization. Even though we will not be trekking, there are enough activities that can keep you busy in Namche.
Namche hosts numerous Wi-fi connected hotels, restaurants, and cafes. There are shops full of gear and souvenirs. We can visit other notable places such as Hillary School, Sherpa Settlements, Syangboche Airport, Yak farms, and Everest View Hotel, from where you can see the glorious Everest.

But our efforts will be rewarded by the spectacular landscape and high-land wildlife views such as musk deer, pheasants, and Himalayan Thar. Before reaching our destination, we will be passing a small but pretty village of Phunki Thenga. The trails ahead will lead us to Tengboche, where we will visit the famous Tengboche monastery. The environment here is calm and spiritually uplifting.

On our path lie chortens, mani walls, and incredible small villages, but perhaps the most eye-catching view is that of the Ama Dablam. Our trek progresses alongside the Lobuche River as we enter Imja Valley, from where we will take a steep climb to Dingboche. At Dingboche, you will see cultivated fields surrounded by stones to protect the crops from the hostile climate.

Rest day and acclimatization at Dingboche
By reaching Dingboche, you will have gained substantial height, so it is time for acclimatization. We will mark this day by walking up the ridge above Dingboche, from where we can get panoramic close-up views of the snow-capped peaks -including Lhotse, the backside of Ama Dablam, Island peak, Cho Oyu, and Makalu. To the north of Dingboche, we can observe more Himalaya peaks rising over the Khumbu Khola valley. Dingboche village itself looks like a piece of the earth untouched since God created it.

Then, we'll be crossing a glacial moraine and a small collection of lodges. All in all, the trek will be quite enjoyable, and after reaching Lobuche, we will stop, take a rest and spend the night there.

But you will start the trek from Lobuche, through the lateral Khumbu Glacier moraine, until you reach Gorak Shep. Gorak Shep provides incredible views of some of the tallest mountains in the world. We will leave our belongings at Gorak Shep and head to the Base Camp. This is the highest you can trek to without using any equipment. It is a great achievement, and in a way, you triumphed against all odds, fueled by your courage and determination. You will probably recollect yourself and your memories of this achievement throughout your life.

Everest and other peaks. After spending some time at Kala Patthar, we will descend to Gorak Shep, have breakfast, and rest for a while. Then we will trek to Periche, our destination for this day.

Itinerary Facts Flight Hours 40/20 Minutes As your trek concludes in Lukla, you can fly to Manthali or Kathmandu based on the trekking season. Chances are you'll fly from Lukla to Manthali, coupled with a subsequent five-hour drive to Kathmandu if you are trekking in March, April, May, September, October, or November. In contrast, in other months (December, January, February, June, July, and August), direct flights to Kathmandu are the norm.
You can avoid the Lukla-Manthali-Kathmandu route by reserving a helicopter from Lukla to Kathmandu. However, it will come at an additional cost of approximately 550 USD per person if you share the helicopter cost among five people (including yourself).
We assume that your journey back to Kathmandu will indeed be relaxing. You will probably be recollecting the memories that you made during this trip. After arriving in Kathmandu, you can spend the time as you like. DWT will organize the farewell dinner later in the evening.

Equipment required for the trek
We will provide porters to carry your luggage, but your weight limit is 9 kg. Our porters will not carry more than 18 kg of luggage. Hence, we advise you to find a fellow trek partner and pack both your luggage in a duffle bag of over sixty liters capacity. We also expect you to carry a small regular backpack for your valuables and essential documents.

EBC : Trek Details
Arrival
If you reserve our trek packages, we will pick you up from Tribhuvan International Airport on the day of your arrival and transfer you to your hotel in a comfortable private vehicle.
When you arrive at the airport, our representative will be waiting for you holding a pamphlet displaying your and our company's name. As a welcome gesture, our representative will present you with a traditional Khada or a vibrant marigold garland. They will then take you to your hotel in Kathmandu.
You can find a wide range of hotels in Kathmandu, and we want you to choose your own accommodation. We can help you find a suitable hotel. Simply share your flight details with us, and we will guide you accordingly.
Trek start
Before you come to Nepal, we will conduct an online briefing. However, we also understand the importance of an in-person briefing, so we will arrange a brief session in Kathmandu before we embark on the journey together.
During this in-person briefing, we will also take the opportunity to inspect your luggage, ensuring you have all the necessary clothing, gear, and equipment required for the trek.

This package covers an 11 nights stay at the best accommodation hotels/lodges in the trek region. You will be staying five nights at Lukla, Phakding, and Namche (3 nights) in rooms with private attached bathrooms and six nights at Tengboche, Lobuche, Dingboche (2 nights) Gorakshep, and Pheriche in standard rooms.
You can use hot showers and Wi-Fi at the lodges you will be staying by paying a small fee. Please note that this package does not include accommodations and meals in Kathmandu. You will need at least two days' accommodations in Kathmandu, one before leaving for the trek and the other at the end.
Meals
High-altitude treks require plenty of nutritious food, and we will provide nutrient-rich food throughout the trek. This trek package includes 12 lunches, 11 dinners, and 12 breakfasts in the trek regions. The food choices include local, Nepali, or Western cuisine, but as you climb higher, the menu gets shorter.
We strongly recommend you take Dal (lentils), Bhat (Rice), and Tarkari (curry), which also happens to be the staple food of Nepalis. We handpick the lodges/restaurants in trek regions that provide fresh, hygienic, delicious, and nutritious food.
We highly recommend liquids like green tea, lemon tea, hot lemon, ginger tea, fresh vegetable items, and garlic soup(must) at high altitudes. Though plenty of non-veg items are available, we recommend avoiding them for quality concerns. We highly suggest you avoid dairy (including cheese), alcoholic drinks, caffeinated items, or hot chocolates.
Please note that personal bills (alcoholic drinks, hot (tea, coffee) drinks, and cold drinks) in tea houses/ lodges or cafes, except standard meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner with seasonal fruits) are excluded from the package.
Luggage
This package includes porter costs, but your luggage weight is 9 kg. We assign one porter for every two trekkers, and our porters carry no more than 18 kg of luggage. Hence, we encourage you to partner with another fellow trekker and pack your luggage in a duffle bag with a capacity of over 60 liters.
We also expect you to carry a small backpack with your valuables and informational documents. Please pack only the essentials. You can store your excess luggage at the Discovery World Trekking store for free and for the duration of the trek.
Typical day
Each day brings a unique experience as you enjoy the scenery, take photos, and explore the local villages. As you trek, our expert guides/Sherpas will share information and historical facts about the places as you visit them.
The day starts with breakfast, and you will set off on that day’s walk around 7 AM to 8 AM, depending on the duration and nature of the walk. After trekking for three to four hours, you will have lunch and rest for around an hour, then continue the trek to that day's destination.
Once you reach our overnight lodge/tea house, you can snack on the extra dietary food and explore nearby places until dark.
We will serve you dinner between 6 PM and 7 PM, and after dinner, you will have time to socialize. Your trek leader will brief you about the next day's plan. After the briefing and before going to bed, you can entertain yourself by reading, playing Monopoly, Cards, or watching mountaineering documentaries if available.
Electricity and water
All tea houses/lodges in trek regions have electricity you can use for battery recharge at an extra cost. You can buy packed mineral water from the lodges or fill your water bottle with boiled water. We can also provide water purification pills to make water drinkable. However, you shouldn't drink water from the rivers, taps, or wells in trek regions for hygiene concerns.
Communication
You can enjoy Wi-Fi at lodges/restaurants/hotels paying an extra cost, but at high altitudes, communication will be through phones. Our DWT office in Kathmandu remains in contact with each team through the trek leaders at least once a day. For communicating, you can buy a local sim card in Kathmandu. However, the mobile signal at high altitudes may not be strong.
Tipping
Tipping is at your discretion and should reflect the quality of service. Nepali culture accepts and honors tips as a way of saying thank you. We encourage you to tip as a group at the end of the trek.
Trek End
If everything goes as planned, on the 12th day, early morning, we will fly you from Lukla to Kathmandu. The flight will last around forty minutes. You are free to spend the remaining day as you like. In the evening, we will organize a farewell dinner in Kathmandu.
Feedback
After the trek completion, we will host a farewell dinner in Kathmandu. After dinner, we will present you with a printed certificate mentioning your trek achievement. If you are happy with our service, we encourage you to leave reviews on the travel portals.
Useful Info
We also recommend you allocate one or two days for the trip to account for possible flight delays from Kathmandu to Lukla or from Lukla to Kathmandu due to bad weather.
We may have to use Manthali Airport at Ramechhap instead of Kathmandu in busy trek seasons. In case of flight delays, your flight will be postponed. However, we can arrange a helicopter, but that will cost you an additional 500- 1,000 USD.
The itinerary listed above is a general guideline, and, in rare cases, we may have to modify them for reasons beyond our control, such as bad weather, trail condition, governmental decrees, etc.
Trip extension
After completing your trek, if you want to stay a couple of days extra in Nepal, you can use this time for exploring and sightseeing in Kathmandu, Nagarkot, and nearby regions. Other options include the Chitwan jungle safari, paragliding, rafting, and canoeing.
Departure
If you share your flight details on your departure date, we will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport. We hope you enjoyed your trek and you will be back for more exciting treks.
Trek season
The weather is the determining factor that affects trek experience and success. Though professionals, locals, and thrill-seekers trek to the Everest Base Camp throughout the year, the best EBC trek seasons are spring (March, April, and May) or autumn (September, October, and November).
During spring and autumn, the skies are mostly clear, the trails are in perfect condition, and the temperatures at high elevations are cool. At high trek elevations, during spring, the daytime temperature can reach up to 20°C and can dip to -5°C at night. Similarly, during autumn, temperatures can rise to 25°C during the day before falling to -10°C.
The summer season (June, July, and August) in Nepal coincides with the monsoon season bringing in heavy rain in lower trek regions. The temperatures during the summer days can reach up to 27°C and get back to 5°C at high trek altitudes.
During winter (December, January, and February), at high trek altitudes, nighttime temperatures can get as low as -20°C, and day temperatures can reach up to 15°C. Heavy snow also covers the trekking trails in the high trek regions.
The weather in high elevations can change rapidly.
Trek difficulty
EBC trek is a challenging but rewarding trek. You will be reaching an altitude of 5,555m at Kalapathhar. A normally fit person can surely complete this trek. However, the fitter you are the more you will enjoy the trek.
Hence, we advise you to participate in stamina-building exercises, such as jogging, swimming, cycling, or even trekking for a day with a small backpack for a few weeks before starting the trek. If you are not in great shape, you might need to start early to prepare for the trek a bit earlier.
Trek safety
Discovery World Trekking pays special attention to client safety, security, and satisfaction. We carry all necessary gear, equipment, and first aid kits, and our trek leaders/guides have received first aid training. Our trek itineraries have days reserved for acclimatization.
If someone in the trek team catches illness, your guide will decide whether to continue the trek or descend based on the overall situation. In emergencies, we will deploy a helicopter for swift evacuation after consulting with your insurance company. For an added safety layer, you will be trekking together.
Our team
Our well-trained and licensed team with years of trekking experience will accompany you throughout the trek. Our crew members are local people born and raised in the high Himalayas, and their physical endurance is second to none. All our team members - including porters, have insurance, and we take care of them in every way.

Visa
All foreigners except Indians require a visa to enter Nepal. You can get an on-arrival visa at Tribhuvan International Airport. For visa application, you need a passport with six months validity, a passport-size photo, and a visa application fee. The current cost of the visa is USD 50 for a 30-day stay, which you can pay in cash at the airport. Chinese and SAARC citizens may be eligible for a free visa for a limited time. Please note that citizens from some countries like Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, and Afghanistan may not receive the on-arrival visa. So, citizens from these countries need to contact the nearest Nepali embassy.
Trek booking
Discovery World Trekking is a Nepal-government-authorized, registered, licensed, and bonded trek and tour company with over a decade of experience. We are members of the Trekking Agency Association of Nepal (TAAN) and the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA).
We require 10 percent of the trip cost as an advance payment as a booking confirmation. You can pay the advance through bank transfer, western union, or online directly from our website, and you can pay the rest in cash or by bank transfer or credit card when you arrive in Nepal. We will also forward payment details through email.
Please, send other essential documents like a passport copy, passport-size photo (you can use your cell phone to take the picture), travel insurance policy, and arrival and departure flight details within a week of booking.

Currency exchange
Nepali Rupees (NPR/Rs) is the local/national currency. (1 USD = ~ Rs.130 NPR)
You can exchange most foreign currencies through local banks and legitimate money exchanges in Kathmandu and all over Thamel. Legal currency exchanges have their ongoing rates displayed visibly on their premises. If you have Indian Rupees, only a 100 Rupee note is legal in Nepal.
We advise you to cash exchange to avoid hassles like lengthy processes and high bank commission rates. You can also withdraw cash (in Rupees only) from ATMs in Kathmandu. These ATMs are open around the clock. If you are using a foreign card, the maximum withdrawal amount is 35,000 Rupees for a 500 Rupees processing fee.
If you use the money exchange facility at banks and financial institutions, the service fee charge imposed is about four percent or more, depending upon the bank. Since the trek regions have no banks or money exchange services, you should exchange your money in Kathmandu.
Extra personal expenses
This package covers most of the essential things during the trek, but not all of them. Meals and accommodations in Kathmandu are excluded from our package. You can easily book your choice of hotels/lodges (both luxury & budget) in Kathmandu.
You will need spending money for meals and accommodations in Kathmandu, visa processing, travel insurance policy purchase, beverages, snacks, hot (tea/coffee) and cold drinks, tips to the trekking crew members, souvenirs, etc.
Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is compulsory. All trekkers must provide a copy of their comprehensive travel insurance policy certificate to Discovery World Trekking before departing for the trek. The policy must cover medical and emergency repatriation - including helicopter rescue and evacuation expenses at high altitudes (up to 5,500m). We can recommend insurance companies based on the recommendation of our previous clients, but we do not sell insurance policies. In emergencies, we will use your insurance policy and the informational documents you sent us to arrange a quick and effective rescue operation and transfer to a medical facility.
Before buying travel insurance, call the company and recheck if their policy covers heli-rescue and evacuation at altitudes up to 5,500m in addition to the health care costs.
Last-minute booking
Discovery World Trekking offers last-minute booking for this trek. In case of last-minute booking, you must clear all the payments 24 hours before the trip departure date. However, please note that in the case of last-minute booking, there remains a chance of trek delays due to circumstances beyond our control, such as bad weather, lodging unavailability, etc.
Group & private trek
We organize groups as well as private treks. The bigger your team is, the more discount you will get. However, you will not get any discounts for trek groups we assemble. You can, of course, choose to trek privately with your team members only. We can handle all group sizes. Your group will consist of a group leader, a porter for every two trekkers, and an assistant guide for a group of 12 or more.
Ecotourism
Discovery World Trekking is aware of the need for sustainable tourism, so we try hard to minimize disturbing nature. Therefore, we work with Kathmandu Environmental Education Project (KEEP) to ensure that our trips are eco-friendly, in the interest of tourists and locals.

I had a thrilling adventure with Discovery World Trekking. The Mount Everest Base Camp trek was challenging, but the support and encouragement from our guide made it easier.
The views along the trail were simply breathtaking, making every step worth it. The company's organization and attention to detail were commendable. The only reason I didn't give them a full five stars is that some of the accommodations were basic. Overall, it was an amazing trekking experience, and I would recommend Discovery World Trekking to adventure enthusiasts.
