About the Trip

Yala Peak climbing is a great introduction to the most delight of adventure trekking and peak climbing in the Langtang region.

Overview

Yala Peak 5732m considers relatively easier and non-technical climb with astoundingly beautiful and serene, and one of Nepal’s lowest trekking peaks to the beginner’s mountaineering trip.  Located in the heart of Langtang Himalayan range, close to Tibetan border, it is a chance to experience unique traditions to mountain people, and best thrill of adventure trekking and peak climbing in langtang region.  To make an attempt of scaling the summit is achievable for all travelers with previous outdoor experience only but not require  prior mountaineering experience. The summit offers amazing good views of mountains into Nepal and Tibet. This peak is often being used as a warm-up for Naya Kanga on the opposite side of the valley.

The trip starts from Kathmandu and drive to Syabrubesi, a couple of days trek  up langtang valley through forests and villages, we reach Kyanjin Gompa at the foot of imposing Langtang Lirung (7246 m )to take a rest day and explore Buddhist monasteries and  the Langshisa glacier.  Then we establish our  high camp at (4800m) , provide necessary climbing skills and training to use crampons, ice axe and rope and climb Yala peak summit  next day. From summit, we will be rewarded by outstanding mountain views of Langtang Lirung(7,246m), Lenpo Gang (7083m), Dorje Lakpa (6990m), Ganesh Himal, Naya Kanga in Nepal  side, towards the Tibet is  Gangchempo (6388m), and mighty Shishapangma( 8027m) - the only solo mountain in Tibet with a height above (8000 m). After successful Yala Peak climb, we come back to Syabrubesi and drive back to Kathmandu.

Day to Day Itinerary

day 1
Arrival to Kathmandu (Trinhuvan International Airport-TIA) (1,350m/4,450ft), transfer to hotel.

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and clearing customs and immigration, you will be welcomed by our personal representative at the arrival zone (we assure you that our complete team roster at Discovery World Trekking (DWT) is professionally certified and registered with the government). Our representative will escort you by private transport to our hotel in Kathmandu, centrally and conveniently located in the Thamel area of Kathmandu. Thamel is well known as an exciting tourist hub and has a full range of restaurants and cuisine, gear and souvenir shops, pubs, nightspots and tourist facilities. After resting and refreshing at the hotel, the evening is yours to explore.

Full day Kathmandu valley sightseeing tour.

After breakfast, we will embark on a full day of sightseeing around the scenic Kathmandu Valley. You will be accompanied by our personal DWT guide, an expert on the architecture, culture and history of the valley.The day’s sights and activities include visits to the sacred, ancient shrines of Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, and Swayambhunath, all still very active. Pashupatinath is one of the world’s most important Shiva shrines and a site of cremation for dignitaries. Boudhanath is one of the largest and grandest Stupa in Asia and busy from dawn to dusk with devotees. Swayambhunath, aka The Monkey Temple, is famously perched on a hill overlooking the city. The day’s tour includes a visit to the otherworldly Patan Durbar Square.

Drive to Syabrubensi (1,420 m / 4,655 ft) –8hrs

We start our scenic drive after an early morning breakfast, traveling by local bus out of the valley and along the picturesque highway that heads north The beautiful scenery along the way includes rivers, terraced fields, villages and sights of the snowy mountains on clear days. The initial section of the drive is relatively pleasant to Trishuli Bazaar. The roadthen becomes a bit more rugged as it ascends to Dhunche and dropping back down to Syabrubensi, a bazaar town with much to explore including a riverside hot springs.

Trek to Lama Hotel (2,470m/8,110ft) - 6hrs

From Syabrubensi, we inaugurate our first day on the trail. The route crosses the BhoteKosi and Langtang River and follows pleasantly up the rushing Langtang River through fertile jungle and terraced fields. We pass through rural settlements and bamboo and birch groves where we have a chance to spot rare, local wildlife including the red panda. The trail gradually rises to reach Lama Hotel.

Trek to Langtang Village (3,430m/11,255ft) - 6 hrs

Today we continue alongside the river through lush landscape as weascend upward through dense forests. Along the way, we will occasionally see the snowy peaks ahead, calling us onward. Eventually the narrow river valley widens out atGhoraTabela. In this area, there was once a Tibetan resettlement projectrunning, and currently, GhoraTabela has an army check post that will register our paoers and afew nearby lodges. We continue past prayer wheels driven by flowing water and prayer flags to scenic Langtang, a large settlement of mostly Tamang people with a nearby monastery.

Trek to Kyangjin Gompa (3,865m/12,675ft)-3 hrs

We continue our gradual ascent as we pass through small villages and meadows. The wide valley offers far-reaching panoramas. The route crosses several tributaries and a glacial moraine and then finally we arrive at the last and highest communityof our journey, a place known as KyangjinGompanamed for the nearby, ancient monastery of KyangjinGompa. After lunch at our lodge, we have the option of an afternoon climb to KyajoRi, a spectacular viewpoint above to the direct north of the settlement.

Exploration Day at Kyangjin Gompa

The upper Langtang Valley offers much to explore for trekkers. The high elevation landscape is broad and affords many views and opportunities to approach the mountains and associated glaciers more closely. There is much to see and do as we enjoy a day of exploration of the area. Beyond the requisite visits to the monastery and cheese factory, we have optional hikes to LangshisaKharka and the viewpoint ofTserkoRi (5450)for trekkers feeling more than a little ambitious.We return to KyanginGompa for the evening.

Trek to Yala peak Base camp (4400 m)-5 to 6 hrs Stay overnight at Tented camp.

Our journey on the way to Yala Base Camp continue the rocky glacier route. Upon reaching the base camp of Yala4600m, we will be greeted by the views of Ganchenpo, Naya Kang, Tserko Ri, Yala peak and so on. Our experienced climbing guide conducts a basic training on climbing technique to proper way of using gears.

Summit Yala Peak(5732 m) and trek back to Kyangjin Gompa- 8 hrs Stay overnight at lodge

We start our summit to Yala Peak early in the morning. From the summit we will be stunned by panoramic views of the mighty Himalayas including Shishapangma, Dorje Lakpa, Ganchenpo, Naya Kang, Tserko Ri, Langtang Lirung and others. After spending some time at the summit, we head back to the base camp. It's a six hour round trip, with plenty of time at the top to take pictures of the Himalayan panoramas.

  • We'll return back to base camp for overnight at guesthouse.

Spare day in case of bad weather. Stay overnight at lodge.
Spare day is arranged just in case of unable to summit the previous day due to bad weather. If plan goes well, we will be on the way to the Lama Hotel.

Trek back to Lama Hotel (2500 m)- 6 hrs,

From Kyangjin Gomba, we say goodbye to the upper highlands and begin back down and out the valley. We retrace the arrival routethroughLangtang Village and break for lunch at GhoraTabela where the army check post registers our exit. After the leisurely lunch we continue down throughthe dense forests of the river valley to Lama Hotel.

Trek to Syabrubensi (1,420 m / 4,655 ft)- 5 hrs

We have reached our final day on the trekking trail. Today we make a pleasant hike along the Langtang River as we head down the beautiful valley. We gradually descend through bamboo and birch and spectacular landscape to cross the Langtang and BhoteKosi rivers to Syabrubensi, the starting point of our trekking journey where we will meet our bus to Kathmandu tomorrow.

Drive from Syabrubensi to Kathmandu – 8hrs

We make an early start by local bus on a journey back to Kathmandu. The road follows along the scenic Trishuli River Valley as we head south through the hills. Along the way we will have good views of the lush scenery and terraced farmland and perhaps even some final glimpses of the mountains.

Transfer to Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) for your international departure

Our personal representative will accompany you by private vehicle to the international airport for your final departure home. Trip Grading

Unquestionably Nepal is renowned as best destinations for novice and adventures lovers. Thus, various popular destinations in the world are situated in Nepal available for trekking in the Himalayan for the trekkers all across the world. Trekking in Nepal can easily be achieved by the all levels of trekkers who have strong desire and determination. We are familiar with the fact that trekking demands different level of physical fitness, efforts and even acclimatization or rest day based on the level of trekking nature. We ensure that our trip grading would be a great idea or method for our valued guests while choosing an appropriate trek package that is suited perfectly to your capabilities and present health condition. It is advised that people who are suffering from the diseases like cardiac or respiratory problem have to consult with doctor before deciding to do trek in Nepal. However, in the context of Nepal trekking, it is difficult task to determine the trip grade preciously due to trek has not made different from one place to another only the elevation of place that has significant role in its trip grading but also the other contributory factors needs to be concerned well. The given below contributory factors need to be considered in determination of trek grading.

  • Average elevation (height) of the trek.
  • Trekking routes features or conditions
  • Total duration of trek and average walking per day in trek.
  • Backpacking level.
  • Temperature range based on climate and weather conditions
  • Acclimatization or rest day.
  • General level of comfort, remoteness as well as level of service.

Grade: Easy

This grade trekking consists of elevation below 3000m. This type of trekking involves short duration at lower altitude along with several ways of ascent and descent trials. Previous experience does not require at this level of trekking. Thus, any age group can adjoin who is in good health, physical fit and can walk at least 4 to 5 hrs per day in the plain place. Discovery World Trekking has designed easy grade trek in which you can assign Nagarkot Trek, Ghorepani trek , Sarankot trek and Langtang trek .

Grade: Moderate

This moderate level of trekking covers at an altitude between above 2000m to 3500m below. No previous hiking experience is required however trekking demands well fitness of physical conditions and duration of days involve both shorter and longer to complete overall trek. Trekkers need walking at least 5 to 6 hrs capabilities with longer ascent and descent trails through the involvement of some rough routes conditions. Discovery World Trekking has typical holiday package at moderate grade trek are Annapurna base camp trek, Muktinath trek and Ganesh himal trek (Ruby valley trek), Langtang trek, Tamang heritage trek etc.

Grade: Difficult

This level of trekking involves an altitude of above 3000m to 4500m below. Trekkers need to walk for 6-7 hrs daily at cross steep hilly terrain, rough round, some backpacking and high passes on some routes with daily ascent and descent. Trekking in the remote environment might be possibility of facing altitude problem in the higher elevation. Physical fitness is essential along with hill walking experience to enjoy trekking. Everest Base camp trek, Gokyo via Everest base camp trek, Gosainkunda trek, Helambu trek etc.

Grade: Strenuous

In this type of trekking at least 6-7 hrs per day walking require at high altitude with daily ascent and descent. The altitude of strenuous grade trek ranges between 4600m to 5600m. Altitude sickness problem is likely to happen at any time therefore high level of both mentally and physically fitness as well as stamina is considered to enjoy in such type of trip. Acclimatization or rest day is essential to adjust with low level of oxygen environment. Previous trekking experience is added as an asset that trek passes through the remote, wild environment with extreme weather condition and snow covered route. Grade:  challenging

Altitude remains around 6000m at this level of trekking. Trek might be longer enough in the remote pace and highly mountains. This challenging grade trek is limited which demands an excellent level of personal experience, physically fitness and stamina as walking day is supposed to be 7 to 8 hrs with ascent and descent. Trek involves the pass crossing the snow covered glaciers, ice and need to climb up to small peak. Trekkers therefore require basic climbing skills. This type of trekking ultimately joins with peak climbing. Discovery World Trekking challenging grade trek are Everest base camp trek via Island peak, Everest base camp trek via Mera peak etc.

Altitude, and Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness refers to the less oxygen pressure of air in the surrounding atmosphere as increase in an elevation.  It is also called mountain sickness or acute mountain sickness (AMS).

Generally, Altitude sickness is likely to happen anyone during the course of trying to accomplish adventure trips an above the height of 3500 m.  Symptoms may vary even person to person. However, it is preventable and cured immediately if the common symptoms take seriously and take action for treating them well on time. Stages of altitude sickness has described below in details.

The common or mild symptoms of Altitude Sickness

  • slightly headache
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Dizziness
  • Tiredness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Upset stomach
  • Shortness of breath
  • Swelling
  • Fatigue

These above common altitude sickness affects slightly in human body. It indicates warning sign that you are at the risk of developing serious altitude sickness. Walking slowly in ascending way and manage rest time in high altitude for body adaptation with environment   is primarily a great method to reduce the problem of common altitude sickness. 

Symptoms of severe altitude sickness

Symptoms of severe altitude sickness develop soon after the common altitude sickness left untreated. 

  • Severe headache
  • Frequently vomiting
  • Rapidly increase heart rate
  • Difficulty in sleeping
  • Difficulty in walking
  • Irrational behavior
  • Breathlessness even after enough resting
  • Problem in vision
  • Confusion or lack of coordination with group member
  • Irritable cough or persistent cough

Severe altitude sickness symptoms are a worse condition; people do not try to go up unless a symptom is improved. Descending immediately from higher elevation is primary treatment because it may be potentially a life threatening which will later in result to developing HACE and HAPE. HAPE stands for high altitude pulmonary edema which causes fluid enter into the lung and HAPE refers to high altitude cerebral edema which leads to fluid collects in the brain.

Discovery World Trekking in the higher altitude treks has been providing acclimatization or rest day for proper adaptation of body with exiting atmosphere. Our professional guides are specialized in altitude related situations they do great your care of safety and use the technique of “high climb and sleep low” during the trek in higher altitude. Main cause of altitude sickness is hiking too fast each day at ascending way without taking rest throughout the day. Thus, you could notice each of our itineraries allow maximum 4 to 6 hours walking per day along with adequate rest time across the trail at the higher elevation.

Please consider that some people are more vulnerable than other. Thus it is advised that each of individual clients needs to purchase mandatorily travel insurance policy along with inclusive of higher elevation rescue and evacuation coverage before deciding to mark on any trips.  Please keep in mind that we are not insurance policy seller and do not conduct this as a business. We need this to make an ease in rescue operation during the difficult conditions happened in the remote areas where rescue operation is accessible only through the helicopter charter.

You do not need to leave children at home to enjoy a trek in Nepal! A tour with children along will definitively be a different experience from a tour without children.
