There is ample cheap public transportation such as buses, minibusses, micro-buses, and so forth available all around Kathmandu, primarily at the old or new bus park, which departs to different destinations in the valley. Three-wheeled electric vehicles, known as Tempo, are also available in and around the Kathmandu Valley.
There are ample metered taxis, and you can identify them from afar by the taxi sign on the top and the black license plate. We advise you to consult the Kathmandu Valley map to find the location of your destination. You can wave to a taxi and ask for a ride. Night taxi service can be arranged and operated to and from hotels. Taxi fare at night is slightly higher than metered taxis during the day. You can also book a taxi or rent a private car through a travel agent or car rental company.
There are many shops in Kathmandu that offer mountain bikes and ordinary bicycles for rent at a cheap cost. It is the best form of transportation for economy tourists. You can hire them at Thamel, Rani Pokhari, Jhochhen, and other locations in and around Kathmandu.
You can get long-distance day and night bus services from Kathmandu to all cities across Nepal, usually from the old bus park at Bagbazaar and the new bus park at Gongabu near Balaju, Kathmandu.
There are dozens of domestic airlines available in Kathmandu, and they provide extensive air service networks to major parts of the country. Besides Nepal Airlines, around 20 other private domestic airlines provide regular and chartered services to popular domestic destinations.
