Overview

The Langtang Valley comprises of immense blooming rhododendron and green bamboo forests, majestic waterfalls and snow-capped Himalayas. This is one of the most diverse treks near Kathmandu. This trek also offers an opportunity to explore Tibetan and Tamang villages, climb small peaks and visit glaciers comfortably at a low elevation.

The Langtang Valley Ganja La Pass trek is challenging yet rewarding with beautiful nature’s sight and Tibetan tribe cultures. The Langtang Valley has such a compact, diverse and interesting place to trek. In just a few days traverse the lower Himalayan foothills and reach active glaciers in the high Himalaya. There are so many opportunities for side treks, circuit treks, high mountain pass traverses and peak climbing all within the beautiful Langtang Valley.

A challenging Langtang Valley Ganja La Pass trek begins from a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, a 7 hours’ drive. Then the trail leads us ahead to the mesmerizing Langtang valley where we trek to Lama Hotel then following up to Mundu (3,403m) through the traditionally rich Langtang village. Further continuing the trails, we trek to Kyangjin Gompa and acclimatize for a couple of hours. We can explore the valley and riverbeds around Kyangjin Gompa as it is a beautiful sight. From here we explore to Tserko Ri (5000m) which gives a splendid and a mesmerizing view ofLangtang Himalaya ranges and peaks like Langtang Lirung (7,246m), Kimshung (6,781m), Yansa Tsenji (6,575m). Then we continue the trek to Ganja La phedi crossing the Ganja La Pass (5122m). The trek becomes challenging as the elevation is high. The view from the top of the pass is Lantang Lirung and Shishapangma (8013m) in Tibet which have outstanding views. As we descend, we trek to Keldang and then to Yak Kharka continuing to Tarke Gyang. The villages out here follow Buddhism and we will come across many Buddhist stupas, monasteries and monuments. Further trekking to Sermathang then to Malemchi Puul Bazaar, the nature and the sight of villages does not fail to be admired. Then with a 2 hours’ drive, we head back to Kathmandu.

Conquering the Langtang Valley Ganja-La Pass trek would be a remarkable achievement due to it being an under trekked trail because of the difficulty and the requirements of basic mountaineering knowledge. Facing challenges and winning them would always make life much more uplifting.
