March-May (Best Season To Go For Annapurna Circuit and Base Camp Trek)

Trekking season begins after March. By April, the trek route throughout the Himalayas will be rewarded with different full blossom rhododendron of red, pink and white even at elevations of over 3,000 metres. The temperature starts rising from mid-March to mid-May. Weather is cool at this time. The sky is very clear and you can enjoy the clearest views of the mountains.

It usually rains during this season. Monsoon generally begins around the end of June and continues up to the second week of August. The temperature during the days usually ranges from 10°C to 23°C and gets relatively colder at night ( 5°C to 10°C). Mornings are usually clear with clouds building up during the afternoon and disappearing again at night. The rain may cause some problems during the trek in this month. Various plants bloom during this season. The valleys will be fresh and have a different view than during other seasons.

This is a famous time among tourists with the most favourable weather and perfect climate condition. The sun shines brightly, the skies are clear, you get a superb view of the mountains and the temperature is perfect for the daytime trek. Daytime temperatures can reach up to 20°C in high altitudes. The nights are colder with temperatures going down to around 5°C. The greens that grew during monsoon fade to golden/amber, proving a spectacular contrast against the crystal blue skies. Grains are also ripening in the enclave. November is a busy season, the clearest month, with the crispy and sparkling sky. The daytime temperatures at this month are usually the most stable, from mild to cool conditions. The humidity is also pretty dry with very cold nights

Money exchange

Nepali Rupees (NPR) is the local currency.
(1 USD = ~ Rs.100 NPR).
We can exchange most of the foreign currencies through local banks and legitimate money exchanges in Kathmandu and all over Thamel. Small amounts of cash can also be exchanged at the hotel.
The ongoing rate of exchange is visibly displayed. The government of Nepal has banned the import, export and use of 500 and 1000 Indian Rupee note in Nepal. You should ensure that you are not carrying these notes on arrival in Nepal as they will be confiscated and you may also be fined.
Despite having security advantage of traveller's cheques, we prefer cash exchange to avoid hassles like a lengthy process and high rate of commission at the banks. You can withdraw cash (in Rupees only) from one of the many ATMs in Kathmandu and Thamel itself. There are quite several ATMs that are open around the clock. The maximum withdrawal amount is 35,000 Rupees for a 500 Rupees processing fee if you are using your foreign card.

Trip Reviews

"Life changing experince " 15 days Annapurna Circuit Trek
5 - Excellent

This review and these observations come from the 15 day Annapurna Circuit Trek. It was an amazing experience. A feast for the eyes. Fascinating cultures. Extremes of elevation and vegetation. And since I knew it would be physically demanding for any age, and I am 64, I knew I should choose an excellent trekking service. Paul Gurung and Discovery World Trekking exceeded my expectations in the following areas and more: 1. Excellent communication. Before I left for Nepal there were really any only one or two periods in which more than a day passed before Paul replied to my messages. Sometimes it was a matter of a few hours 2. Clarifying expectations and giving an overview of the trek during a pre-trek one-to-one orientation session with Paul. This was really helpful. 3. Attention to detail. While I didn't actually need that beautiful plate of cut fruit after each dinner, it was just a great sign of how much DWT cares for each of it's clients. 4. Passion for the mountains and the people in it. My guide Mannesh was amazing. When he answered my questions about peak elevations, village names and their cultures I could sense his deep love and passion for what surrounded us each day. 5. This passion is reflected also in the way that I have seen the staff interact and in the way Paul treats them in many ways like "family.". For example, while many companies' porters struggle with enormous loads, Paul limits his porters' loads to 18 kilograms. Morale under these conditions is understandably very high. 6. Personal care for me. No matter how fit you are, there's nothing like ascending a steep trail above 5000 metres to humble you physically. I appreciated how Mannesh was patient with me ("bistari, bistari" / "slowly, slowly"). And although I wasn't as able to communicate as well with my porter because of his English,Manjeet was always cheerful, strong and eager to help. A great team to have with you when the snow flies over Thorung La pass! 7. And finally service, service, service - from Mannesh's strong steady hand on my shoulder during slippery sections to having him deliver a larger hat directly to my hotel, Discovery World Trekking excels in the service department. All in all, I can't recommend them enough!

Annapurna Circuit 15 Days

My friends and I just completed this trek and I must say it was the hardest yet the most rewarding challenge we have ever done. Our guide Soroj and our two porters Gore and Amar were so professional and took really good care of us and went above and beyond their normal duties to make sure we are well looked after...all with a smile! No request was ever too hard. I’m so proud that we have chosen this company as meeting other porters and guides along the trek, it was pretty clear that Discovery looks after the well-being of their employees. We’ve seen other porters on the trek carrying loads of up to 35kg but Discovery made sure that their own porters only carry up to 20Kgs. Paul their manager is very proud of his team and he treats them like family. He made sure his team are properly equipped and received the best training. If anyone is seriously thinking of doing this trek, I highly recommend this crew. Guaranteed they will look after you and be treated like family.

What an experience! My friends and I have just returned from our 15-day Annapurna Circuit trek and our eyes are still sparkling with joy from this huge accomplishment, and glistening with tears from having to part ways with our DWT family. :( The trek was difficult, yes, but the stunning views are to die for. And what's not to like about feeling like a champ at the top of Thorong La pass? The real super stars of this epic trip, however, are Soroj, Amar, and Gore, our guide and two porters. They went above and beyond to ensure our safety and comfort, catering to our every need with great attitudes and good humor because god knows it takes patience to deal with a whining bunch like us. They were there with us every step of the way, helping us to be comfortable with our own pace, dealing us the jokes we needed to keep going. I can't stress enough their impressive level of service and capacity to handle every situation with finesse. I definitely recommend DWT!!!

Wild Life Changing Adventure!! Wow! This hike changed my life! Paul, guide, and our two porters Laxman and Munice were on point every moment and always there to offer a hand with a smiling face yet gave us space to enjoy our personal journey ~ I could not have asked for a better team to adventure with. Discovery World Trekking I recommend 100%! Paul did the unduible all the way down to recovering a tube of paintings I left at the airport in Pokhara ~ through his connections he was able to make a call, find the package and have it flown to us within 2hours! Not to mention the deal he got for us when it came to the helicopter ride. It's best to go with a local travel agency who has connections in the area in which you are adventuring :) Thank You Discovery World Trekking!

Great private trek on Annapurna Circuit

We had a private 15 days annapurna circuit trek with Discvery World Trekking, with Paul organising our trek around our specific requirements. Simbir, our guide was very well versed in the knowledge of the areas we visited and was very helpful in all aspects of our trip. Simbir's brother, Umesh was our porter and he was a lot of fun. Both our porter and guide provided lots of fun and laughter on our trip, showing us different places and reworking our trek itinerary so that we could trek back a different way and see different views. We felt like part of a family travelling with Simbir and Umesh, learning about them and their culture and music. We saw some wonderful sights and met a lot of lovely local people. The whole Discovery World Trekking team went out of their way to make sure our trip was a pleasurable experience, organising all the permits needed, extra flights at the last minute and ensuring a smooth trip. We highly recommend using Discovery World Trekking for any treks/trips around Nepal. Thanks a bunch! :))

My partner and I just completed Annapurna Circuit over the course of 15 days, facilitated by Discovery World Trekking. We could not be more pleased with our experience. From the outset, Paul was accomodating to our wishes and prompt with all replies (we organised the trek from Australia 6 months in advance). He was reasonable, open and sincere with all prices, inclusions and exclusions. The trek itself was phenomenal. We were guided by Saroz and our porter was Amar. Saroz was knowledgeable, informative and very experienced on the terrain. He was attentive to our needs, always recognising when we required rest or some extra assistance. Saroz always encouraged us to go at our own pace which was very helpful and evidence of good guiding skills. He was well equipped with poles, crampons and medications that all proved useful to me during the trek. All accomodation was clean and comfortable. We were given a certificate for our achievement, a prayer flag and necklace, all as kind gestures that really strengthened our love for DWT and this country. Overall, we are thrilled with our experience and would DEFINITELY highly recommend DWT to anyone. We hope to come back to Nepal in 2 years for another trek & will definitely be asking for Saroz and Amar again. Cheers

We did a 15-day Annapurna-circuit trekking with guide and porters, organised by DWT and it was amazing! We had our first contact with Paul, the owner. We were a bit worried about the level of the trekking (we never did a trekking before!), but Paul gave us all the info we needed and he he reasdured us. He came to pick us up at the airport, we had a good chat and he explained us day by day. We liked his way of working. Our guide was Karan, he did his job perfect, gave us all the info we needed, helped us if we needed a bit motivation, or stayed with us when one of us was a bit slower. Top guide and guy! Our porters were Noveen and Bomb, without them we would never been able to do this trekking. Doing a trekking is one thing, carrying your stuff is something else! They did a wonderful job! Not only carrying our stuff, but they also were a great part of our group! Noveen is going to be the next 'idols' in Nepal, that's for sure :)! So a special thanks to those guys! The trekking itself was amazing! The guesthouses where we slept were good, comfy beds, good food! As told; this was our first trekking, and we only regret that we've never did this before! If you can walk several houres a day, you can do this trekking.(with a porter!) Thanks to Paul, Karan, Noveen and Bomb for this wonderful experience!!! Topteam!!

Our trek exceeded all expectations! The scenery, the accomodation, the food and most importantly the team of DWT were so amazing. They made everything so much easier and did everything they could to help us. We’re so glad that we didn’t decide to do the trek by ourselves because it was our first and it took all the stress away so we could focus on just walking. Our guide Karan made sure we were safe and comfortable at all times and he had to sometimes make hard decisions but did in the best way possible. Bom and Novim were our porters and personal entertainers. Couldn’t imagine doing the trek without them. They tought us some Nepali songs and dances while they were carrying our bags . Very impressive. We’ll definitely come back to Nepal and book our next trek with DWT hopefully with the same team. Thanks for everything guys!

Just finished up the Annapurna Circuit and I have nothing but praise for Paul and his incredible team who lead the way! This is my second visit and trek in Nepal, and I have been made to feel welcomed and most importantly safe as a solo female traveller. Paul was always prompt in answering my questions and his amazing team were there to pick me up from the airport when I arrived! Karan was our fearless team leader, with Noveen and Bomb his incredible wing-men! Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to make it over the Thorong-La Pass! These 3 kept our small group entertained, safe and well informed throughout the whole trek. We had planned to go to Tilicho Lake, however due to incredibly dangerous weather, our leaders made the difficult decision to turn us around and out of harms way after. Whilst not ideal, after hearing other trekkers stories of their visit to the lake, I’m glad we had such knowledgeable guides who had our safety as their number one priority. One of our three leaders was always by my side as I was the slowest of the group, and I was never once made to feel like I needed to rush. The guys always encouraged us to do our best and were always positive that we would get to the finish line. I cannot praise Paul and his team enough! It has been yet another incredible visit to Nepal, and it’s been so great knowing I didn’t have to worry about anything, and that I could call on our team no matter what time of the day. Make sure you indulge in the Dal Bhat (24hr power) when you travel with DWT! You’ll need the energy to keep up with the guys who never failed to keep us entertained with songs and jokes! Bomb is the most hilarious pocket rocket, who is always up for the craziest of challenges. Noveen will sing away all of your worries (and will totally win Nepal Idol one day!!!) and Karan will always be by your side, sharing his amazing knowledge about the mountains and making the difficult decisions so you don’t have to, always with a smile on his face. Thanks for a fabulous 2 weeks! I’m already looking forward to my next Nepali adventure!

15-day Annapurna Circuit trek
5 - Excellent

The 15-day Annapurna Circuit tour was fantastic. We were a group of five people (I had not met the others beforehand, but we got on extremely well!) Our guide, Simbir, was very professional, personable, knowledgeable about the area, and attentive to the needs of the group at all times. Our porters - Manish, Dil and Ram - were so impressive in their strength and positivity, despite the heavy loads they were carrying every day! The trek itself consisted of hiking for an average of 5-6 hours each day, the pinnacle being passing the Thorang La pass at 5416m altitude. The scenery throughout the whole trek was stunning. The accommodation during the trek was fairly basic. There are 2- or 3-bed rooms, normally with an attached bathroom, but the rooms are unheated and definitely not luxurious! Remember that Nepal is a poor country and you'll be staying in very remote areas - do not expect hot showers or fast WiFi everywhere you stay... however, obviously this is part of the experience! I would highly recommend Discovery World Trekking if you want to trek the Himalayas without the hassle of carrying your own stuff, navigating the route, and organising your accommodation. They are very professional and everyone I interacted with was extremely friendly.
