Money exchange

Nepali Rupees (NPR/Rs) is the local currency.
(1 USD = ~ Rs.100 NPR).
We can exchange most of the foreign currencies through local banks and legitimate money exchanges in Kathmandu and all over Thamel. Small amounts of cash can also be exchanged at the hotel.
The ongoing rate of exchange is visibly displayed. The government of Nepal has banned the import, export and use of 500 and 1000 Indian Rupee note in Nepal. You should ensure that you are not carrying these notes on arrival in Nepal as they will be confiscated and you may also be fined.
Despite having security advantage of traveller’scheque, we prefer cash exchange to avoid hassles like a lengthy process and high rate of commission at the banks. You can withdraw cash (in Rupees only) from one of the many ATMs in Kathmandu and Thamel itself. There are quite several ATMs that are open around the clock. The maximum withdrawal amount is 35,000 Rupees for a 500 Rupees processing fee if you are using your foreign card.
If you use the money exchange facility at banks and financial institutions the service fee charge imposed is about four percent or more depending upon the bank.

Most of the established banks in Asia will not accept foreign currency notes that are old, torn or faded. Please ensure that you have new, clean notes

I have made my best decision to choose Discovery World Trekking for my trip in Nepal. 7 days trekking to Annapurna Base Camp was an unforgettable memory in my life that offered a spectacular views and gave me a chance to know the best guide, Dol, and the best porters, Gokul and Suresh. I really can’t say enough good things about them, they are excellent, professional and very patient that i think it would be crazily hard to reach the top without their support and encouragement. I cannot express how appreciated i am to them cuz we were taken care from beginning until the very end. Trekking is never an easy thing but they made us forget all the difficulties to laugh, to enjoy the adventure and mark it as one of the best trips of my life. My trip has been done so far, what we achieved is not only a certificate but also an unforgettable experience and friendship. Thank you Dol, Suresh and Gokul for being a fabulous part of my life. I wont forget every second when we were together, i wont forget Dol’s funny story, Gokul’s dance and Suresh’s smile. Thank you Paul for your enthusiasm and for your amazing Discovery World Trekking team. I would extremely recommended the company for anyone want to come to trek in Nepal. Please come and experience by yourself and you will know how price worthy this company is. We definitely will be back to Nepal one day and definitely will choose Discovery World Trekking with Dol, Suresh and Gokul again, without any consideration. Cant wait for that day, see you all again in the near future ❤️❤️

Discovery World Trekking were a brilliant choice of company to travel to Nepal with and they organised a great Annapurna base camp trek for us in the time and dates we wanted (7 days). Paul was very quick to reply to our emails with all the information we needed, he provided good recommendations for hotels, organised taxis for us and booked our optional flights from KTM to Pokhara very promptly. He provided a comprehensive brief before the trek and debrief afterwards so we were comfortable with the arrangements and made sure we were happy. The trek itself was amazing, excellent scenery and a great experience, but we wouldn't have been able to do it without the expertise of our guide and porter. Our guide anticipated our every need, set a great pace, provided much needed snacks, booked ahead great rooms in the lodges, taught us a lot about Nepalese culture and was constantly helpful and friendly throughout. Our porter was equally helpful and always had a huge smile on his face, despite carrying our heavy bags! Thank you! I would recommend discovery world trekking to my friends and family, and would definitely arrange a trek with them again.

My friend and I just came back from Anna Purna Basecamp. We hired a guide through Discovery World Trekking company and the entire journey blew away my expectations. From the moment we arrived in Kathmandu, the owner Paul, picked us up at the airport and found us a cheap/clean hostel to stay at for the night. The next day our guide picked us up and provided sleeping bags and bus tickets. The drive to Pokhara was about 7 hours then another hour by taxi to the starting point of our trek. Our guide "Dek" provided a great experience by having a vast knowledge of the trails and the culture of the area. Over the 5 days we spent hiking up and down the mountain trail we were blown away by the mystical beauty of the mountainous countryside in Nepal. Overall I loved the experience with Discovery World Trekking, and would recommend this company for their professionalism to anybody looking to book a guided tour of the Himalaya mountains!

Just got back from an incredible trip to Annapurna Base camp with Discovery World Trekking. Everything was perfect since the very first contact. Paul, the company owner, is very attentive and replies immediately. In several occasions Paul and our lovely guide Soraz went above and beyond (for example one bag did not arrive and they collected it for us the day after from the airport and sent it immediately by plane to Pokhara where we were staying). Soraz was an incredible guide: very patient, always attentive and flexible to cater our needs. When one person in our group started feeling the altitude he immediately got in contact with Paul and they were ready to call a helicopter if needed. The porters were also very smily and kind. 100% recommended company!

I had an amazing trip to Annapurna Base Camp with Discovery World Trekking. It was my first time trekking and first time solo travelling so I was a bit nervous but Sandip my guide made me feel completely at ease and couldn't have been more helpful. He made sure I had everything I needed: enough food, tea, blankets, water and entertained me along the trek by sharing information and stories, teaching me Nepalise songs and taking lots of photos. The views along the way were really incredible and I enjoyed every minute of the trek. The whole trek was very well organised and every time we arrived at a village after a long day trekking, my guide Sandip had a room and cup of tea sorted within minutes! Sandip knew the route very well and the route was well planned out to allow time for rest and acclimatisation. It just took a couple of emails to Paul to organise the trek and It was really worth the money I paid to have the trip so well organised and stress free, right from the beginning when Paul met me at the airport. Thank you to Paul and Sandip and everyone at discovery world trekking! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the company to anyone thinking of trekking in Nepal
