Island Peak Climbing via EBC trek is the most popular trekking peak in Nepal in the Khumbu region.Island Peak also known as Imja Tse (6,189m /20,305f) its located above the summer settlement of Chhukung and can be clearly seen from Dingboche. The peak is located at the middle of the Chhukung valley like an Island in a sea of ice surrounded by Lhotse and Lhotse Shar Glaciers.It's an adventurous climb and we can see spectacular scenery of the world’s highest mountains in the Khumbu region. To submit all three peaks you need to have high level of physical fitness and moderate level of technical climbing, Throughout the journey we will help you develop your mountaineering skills and by the end you will know much more than you originally did.
Our journey start with a 40 minutes’ flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. Upon arrival, we will get ready and trek to Phakding. In Phakding, we may visit the local monasteries with spare time in our hands. The next day we trek to Namche Bazaar We will be crossing many suspension bridges and passing through dense forests. When arriving at Namche Bazaar, we will be spending a day to acclimatize. We will further continue the trek to Tengboche where we will visit the ancient Buddhist monastery.From tengboche to Dingboche and Pass through the settlement of Lobuche and Gorakshep we head towards Everest Base Camp and the viewpoint at Kalapatthar going to Chhukung, from here the trail goes upwards the high Imja valley and
finally to base camp of Island Peak's south ridge, from where we will see striking views beneath the Nuptse-Lhotse wall.the next day we summit Island Peak ,from the peak you will be ,rewarded with stunning , surreal views and a feeling of accomplishment that will last you a lifetime then we descend down and retrace our trekking trail for our return journey to reach back to Lukla. This exciting adventure climbing trek at Island Peak Climbing with Everest Base Camp ends with a mind capturing scenic mountain flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu.
This climb is the beginner's steps to up to mountaineering expeditions for beginner mountaineers who would be very keen on hill walkers with previous mountaineering experience using crampons and ice axe. For Island peak climbing, trek to Kala patthar and Everest base camp are the most appropriate to have perfectly body and mind fitness.
Day to Day Itinerary
Day 1 : Flight to Lukla (2850 m/9,350 ft)-30 Minutes, trek to Phakding (2,650 m/8,690 ft) – 3 hrs
We reach Kathmandu domestic terminal of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) for an early morning flight to the dramatic mountain tiny airstrip at Lukla-the gateway to one of the great spectacular flights above natural scenery and white Nepali Himalayas. This is one of the most beautiful air routes in the world, culminating in a landing on a hillside surrounded by high mountains. Just 40 minutes flight takes us to land at Lula, which is the start of our trek to Khumbu region. Upon arrival here, our rest of the crews for trip will be waiting to meet us and begin easy our trailhead today to get accustomed to the altitude with a enjoyable walk to Phakding with time to spare to explore the local monastery. We spend the reminder of the day resting, acclimatizing and exploring the nearby villages. Overnight in Lodge. Included Meals (B, L, D).
Day 2 : Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,285 ft) 6 hrs.
We begin the six hour trek along the banks of the Dudh Kosi, crossing this majestic river many times on exciting suspension bridges laden with prayer flags. After entering Sagamartha National Park, the trail climbs steeply with breathtaking views. Namche Bazaar, known as the “Gateway to Everest,” is home to many quality restaurants, hotels, lodges, shops, money exchange, internet cafe and a bakery. Namche (3441m) is one of the biggest villages along the whole Everest trail. Overnight at guesthouse.(Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)
Day 4 : Namche Bazaar Acclimatization day.
A day will be spent in Namche in order to adjust to the high altitude. We’ll go on a short trek to a museum celebrating the traditional customs of the Sherpa people. We will also hike up the Syangboche Airport around Khumjung, Everest View Hotel. From this point can be seen rewarding views of the Himalayas with a stunning sunrise and sunset over the panorama of Khumbu peaks. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 5 : Namche Bazzar to Tengboche (3,860m) 7 hours
After our early morning breakfast, we will begin our trek to Tengboche. On the way, we will enjoy the stunning views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse and Island peak. The trail leads us up and down as it becomes challenging but we’ll be getting a great view of the Himalaya. We can also spot wildlife on the way such as musk deer, pheasant, Himalayan Thar. We will further trek down to cross the Dudh Koshi river. Passing through dense alpine forests we will reach a small settlement called Phunki Thenga. Continuing ahead, we will eventually reach Tengboche after a steep climb through a pine forest. We will see the biggest Buddhist monastery in the Khumbu Region; Tengboche Monastery.This monastery was founded in 1923, but was destroyed by an earthquake in 1934, and again by a fire in the early 1990’s. It has been rebuilt with help from proceeds of the Sir Edmund Hillary fund With spare time, we can visit the monastery and observe their prayers in the afternoon.Overnight at the lodge with included meals (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner )
Day 6 : Tengboche to Dingboche (4,360 m) 6 hours
We continue trekking uphill to Pangboche.we will pass by many chortens and mani walls and small villages.We will be able to see spectacular views of Mt. Island peak.Following the Lobuche river we will be entering the Imja valley and trek on a steeply ascending trail to Dingboche From Dingboche we can see Island peak peak (6,812m) and Mt. Lhotse (8,516m). Overnight at the lodge with included meals(Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)
Day 7 : Dingboche – Lobuche (4930m) 6 hours
Today we hike up over the ridge to the village of Pheriche and out up onto the Khumbu Glacier! We take a break for tea and lunch at thukla. Then climb a moraine past the Chorten that have been constructed for the Sherpas who have lost their lives in expeditions .we get a great view of Cholatse Peak and Lobuche Peak loom.included meals(Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)
Day 8 : Trek to Everest Base Camp and back to GorakShep(5,185 m , 17,010 ft)- 6 to 8 hrs
Today is a long awaited and rewarding day. From Lobuche, we follow the glacial moraine up and the views keep on getting better. Eventually we rise to the lodges of GorakShep our overnight point for today, but other than to leave our gear in our rooms and enjoy a lunch, we continue on to base camp. The terrain on the way to Everest Base Camp is otherworldly. Finally we reach the ultimate destination of this trek and we are as close as possible to the world’s highest peak without being a climber. Savor the moment and our congratulations at the effort it took to make it here! We take in the views including the renowned Khumbu Icefall. After some time we head back to GorakShep for the evening. It’s been a wonderful day after all! Overnight at Lodge. Included Meals:(B,L,D).
Day 9 : Hike to Kala Patthar viewpoint and then Trek GorakShep to Chhukung (4,735m / 15,535 feet) –7 hrs.
We wake up early today and enjoy a hot drink before a pre- dawn climb to the famous Kala Patthar viewpoint at 5550 m(18,208 ft). From Kala Patthar we can witness a marvelous sunrise on Mt. Everest and the surrounding peaks. After savoring the panorama, we trek return to Gorakshep for breakfast and to pick up our gear. We then descend back down the beautiful valley to Chhukung. Overnight at Lodge. Included Meals:(B,L,D).
Day 10 : Rest Day to Relax and Acclimatize at Chhukung.
Today is another day for acclimatization.Today we will be trained on peak climbing under the guidance of Sherpa climbing guide and learn the best ways to use our climbing gears , ropes and knots, how to use the ice axe, climbing boots , crampons, harness etc. Island Peak does not require mandatorily prior training experiences. Although without doubt, such training opportunities will boost up climber confidence, sharpen climbing skills and increase the chances of scaling the summit. Day 11 : Chhukung -Island Peak Base Camp (5000m): 4 hours
From Chhukung, we ascend southwards and follow the valley along the moraine from the Lhotse glacier to the east A short hike by the river leads up to blg rock and after a 40 minute climb we reach Island peak base camp After setting up our tents we get short trainings on peak climbing techniques and using climbing gear such as ice axes, climbing boots and crampons, harnesses, and rope skills. stay overnight at tent Included Meals (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)
Day 12 : Summit Island Peak (6189 m) 8-10 hours ,return to Chukhung.
We start early morning and so we can reach summit before noon as the afternoon winds can be a problem. Following our experienced Sherpa guides we will ascend up to the rocky ridge before coming to the base of the glacier .then using ropes we continue up the glacier to South Ridge and follow this ridge to the summit. We can see outstanding views of Lhotse (27,890 feet), Makalu (27,805 feet), Island peak (22,493 feet) and Baruntse (25,328 feet). We then continue down to base camp then We descend all the way to Chhukung for overnight stay. Overnight at guest house included meals (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)
Day 13 : Contingency Day
An extra day allowance just in case we don't have favorable weather on our summit day.If the weather is favorable we will just continue as planned If not we will use this day to relax and enjoy staying in the Himalayas.Overnight at the tent with included meals (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner ).
Day 14 : Trek to Tengboche (3860 m, 12,304 feet) - 6 hrs
We descend down to Tengboche village located within the Sagarmatha National Park , an UNESCO World Heritage Site where the famous Tengboche monastery ,the biggest monastery of the Everest region.is located From the monastery we wil be able to see panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks including Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku. Overnight at the lodge with included meals (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner).
Day 15 : Trek back to Namche Bazar (3441 meters/11285ft), 6 hours.
The trail to Namche Bazaar takes us through forests where we may eye a wild life like pheasants, musk deer, mountain goats or even snow leopard. We will be climbing on the steep slope and winding through several bands. We will pass prayer flags hung along the way and chortens. As we are heading back, we can click pictures and enjoy the view of tip of Everest and back side of Lhotse. After finally arriving to Namche Bazaar, we will head to our lodges and rest. Overnight at the lodge with included meals (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner ).
Day 16 : Trek to Lukla (2804 meters), 6 hours.
Our last day on the trekking trails will be rewarding day as we make a return down the DudhKoshi valley. The route is generally quite gentle back uphill to Lukla from the Kusum stream. Before rushing on to Lukla, the trail heads steeply up to the west. After the first climb, the path reaches a small village. At the junction take a left turn up into trees. The trial ahead through the village leads down to the main trial joining at the side stream before Toktok. From Toktok, From this direction the views will be entirely different. Eventually, we reach the large town of Lukla with airport where tomorrow we will have a flight back to Kathmandu. Overnight at the lodge with included meals (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner ).
Day 17 : Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu in the morning.
If everything goes according to the schedule, we will be flying back to Kathmandu early morning after breakfast. The 40 minutes’ flight back to Kathmandu will indeed be a relaxing one as we will be carrying an unforgettable and a successful journey to the Everest Base Camp. Upon the arrival to Kathmandu, we will head to our hotels respectively and then it is entirely up to the you what you wish to do. Upon your request, we can arrange a Kathmandu city tour of UNESCO World Heritage sites, Durbar Squares, Tourist places etc. with our well informed and experienced guide.

You will arrive to Nepal, Kathmandu in Tribhuwan International Airport as that is the only international airport. An overnight stay in a hotel in Kathmandu is required upon the arrival. Then the next day, at early morning we will take a domestic flight to Lukla, approximately 40 minutes.
Discovery World Trekking provides free airport arrival and departure transfer on any flight for Island peak Expedition. You will be received from our representative crew from Discovery World Trekking regardless the flight you take, with a warm-hearted welcome with either a khada or a marigold garland and you’ll be escorted to your hotel.
The Island peak Expedition is a includes over night at tent at the base camp and 14 nights at a mountain local lodges that provide basic facility and will make you feel homely with the warm hospitality of the local people. Two nights in Kathmandu is required as you would want to rest before and after the trek and is not included in the package. There are excellent range of hotels for all kind of budgets. The accommodation is almost twin sharing basis- bed with mattresses, blanket and pillows. Hot showers will be available at an extra cost. Discovery World Trekking has good public relation with local service providers in the Himalaya region.
During climbing period in the basecamp you will be assigned a tent , very high quality like Mountain Hardwear or similar that you will share with one other member. Each tent will have thick down filled mattress for extra comfort and warmth. We will also have dinner, kitchen tent with table and chairs, tent for staff and Toilet tent with commode at the base camps.
The meal package in this trek is very convenient. Three meal items of breakfasts,lunch and eleven dinner are included in the package. The meals will be the best selected from the menu of the lodge which will be fresh, hygienic, tasty and nutritious. The menu is a combination of traditional local, Asian and western cuisine.Once in the basecamp you will be assigned a specific tent and your climbing guide/leader will prepare food suitable for high altitude.All of your climbing equipments and food for the climb will be carried by the porter up to the base camp.We highly recommend liquids green tea, lemon tea, hot lemon, ginger tea and garlic soup(must) etc at high altitude for health benefit.
At the base camp our cooks will prepare high altitude food ,you will be served with variety of Nepalese and western cuisines.
The weather is one of the most important factor to look at when deciding to trek to Island peak. It is best suited to go during the spring and the autumn. During the winters and monsoon it becomes difficult to trek due to heavy snowfall, cold temperature
March – April-May
This is the best time of the season to trek in the Island peak Expedition. The weather is very favorable through the expedition and there is lower snow risks. Stunning views of the Himalayan ranges and glaciers will be seen. Temperatures may start increasing from the mid of March and with clear skies, snow mountains will be seen at their best. Many people often succeed their expedition in this time.This is also the perfect time for trekking right before the rainfall. Nepal starts its rainfall from the end of June till mid of August. The season of spring and summer makes the trek much more enjoyable.
The rainfall hits at its peak during this time. Due to rainfall, it would not be advisable to trek during this season as the difficulty would rise. The trails would be very slippery. Flights to Lukla may get cancelled due to landslides and flooding.
This is also one of the perfect season for the Island peak Expedition. This season is the peak of tourists due to the favorable weather. As the monsoon slowly ends, a perfect climate sets itself. In the mountains specially towards the peak the temperature goes up to -15 degrees in the daytime and falls down to -24 degrees during the night time. This season we can enjoy a clear sky, and an amazing view of the mountains. It is highly recommended as it’s the best time for the Island peak Expedition, usually between mid-September to end. The day time temperatures are very stable and constant and due to this, the view of the clear blue sky and the mountain is phenomenal Tourists in this season are also attracted by the main festival of Nepal; Dashain and Tihar.
Please Note: The weather in the Himalaya can be unpredictable and the temperature may change quickly from day to night.
Altitude sickness is commonly faced by many trekkers and will need immediate treatment and shouldn’t be left ignored. Altitude sickness is preventable but can be fatal if the symptoms are ignored .Our trip itinerary is designed for slow and steady ascending so the body can adapt to the new altitude In this trek, we will be acclimatizing in two places; Namche Bazaar and Chuukung At Namche Bazaar, trekkers can explore the famous Sherpa town and adjust to the thin air. We will also be having a second acclimatization at Island peak Base camp where we will climb the ridge to take a look at the stunning views of the peaks. We will be taking a lot of rest throughout the expedition. During your rest days you will be working on recovering, eating and drinking, to read, relax, listen to music and stroll around visiting other teams. For the climb our itinerary is crafted for a slow and more calculated schedule with more plenty of rest and acclimatization days with more flexibility.
Our trekking leader and guide are well trained and experienced at high altitude and they have extensive first aid training as well. Your health and safety is important to us and we guarantee that it will be our very first priority. In case you have been rigorously affected, the only cure would be to descend immediately. Also, it is important to know that your group leader has the definitive responsibility to decide whether you can continue the trek based on your overall health conditions.
Level of Climbing Skills required
Island peak requires moderate level of technical climbing skills.It is designed for energetic and physically fit trekkers with little or no experience in mountain expedition with little technical skills required Island Peak is not difficult for beginners The trip is very suitable for any adventurous motivated trekkers who have ability to walk in snows ridges and trails. Also you must have a fierce determination and desire to climb the mountain.As for the leadership , tactics and overall decision making during the climb we have trained highly experienced guides and expedition staff. Age doesn't matter as long as you meet the health and skills requirements. Generally we have people from ages 20-60 joining us for expeditions
Trip Grade: Fitness level, Medical and Health
The Island peak climbing is a challenging yet rewarding trek. The hiking will be from 5 to 7 hours a day depending the on the destination, taking regular breaks where we admire the mountain views. The trek routes involve long climbs, steep descents and a steep forward trail in the rocky paths and the forests as well. To go on such treks, the fitter, the more comfortable and enjoyable the journey will be. If you have an experience or enjoy trekking, this may be an advantage for you. This trek is not recommended to those who suffer from sensitive medical conditions such as heart or lungs disease.
We have a medical personnel at the basecamps to monitor your health throughout the expeditions and all base camps are equipped with medical equipments and provisions.All our guides and leaders leading the trek have medical training and know how to look after you efficiently. The group is generally about 2(minimum) to 10 packs on trek. A group of 8 will be accompanied by a sherpa leader, assistant guide and porters.All our staffs are well trained and have prior climbing and high altitude experience. We are also happy to organize a single private trek with your own family time frame.
A typical day on trek/ climb
A day on trekking will be an unforgettable day because of the beautiful mountains. You will get the time to enjoy the scenery, click pictures and explore the local villages. Your trek will be accompanied by experienced, friendly and qualified guides along with porters to carry your baggage’s.The day begins with early morning breakfast. Then we pack our bags and set off to trek to our destination between 7 to 8 am depending on the duration of the trek per day. We will trek for 3 to 5 hours before we take a short break. Lunch will be provided around midday. Some of our crew depart ahead to reach at the overnight lodge to do some preparation. Dinner is provided around 6 to 7 pm. Before going to bed, we will be discussing about the day’s experience and plan for the next day. We will be enjoying and entertaining ourselves and it is truly up to the members if they want to join us as they may prefer to rest/sleep.
During the climb itinerary depends on the climber , weather and route conditions. We will always pick the safer option. We will be crossing difficult ice rocks some days will include steep snow climbing .Some days we will be using fixed rope routes. If all goes will we will be at the summit after 3 days of leave the base camp
Communication during the expedition
On the Island peak Expedition, the use of internet service will be available at the lodges with service charge. You can contact your family and friends via the lodges, but once we reach high altitudes the connection may not work. Most of the routes have local VHF Phones; in remote areas communication is not available or very limited but you can choose to get a satellite phone.Also, depending on the kind of network you use, there will be signal but not very strong. On your request, we can provide you a separate local sim card for good access to contacting your family and friends through your cell phone.
Extra personal expenses on trekking
Discovery World Trekking tries to provide all extra expenses excluded from the package. Meals and accommodations in Kathmandu will have to be arranged by self. Trekkers will have to bring personal spending money with them to cover costs of accommodations in Kathmandu, visa process, travel insurance policy purchase, beverages, snacks for the trek, tips to the trekking crew members, souvenirs etc. We recommend to bring cash (dollars) which can be changed to rupees here.
Trekking in Island peak expedition requires slightly proactive and reactive preparedness. The high mountains are not a place to visit casually as serious sickness and other casualty are supposed to be unexpectedly happened. Make sure you have insured against this incident before starting the trek. Travel insurance is also a part of booking condition for an adventure trek in Nepal. All clients taking part in Island peak Expedition must provide a copy of their comprehensive travel insurance policy certificate to Discovery World Trekking.The policy must cover medical and emergency repatriation with inclusive of helicopter rescue and evacuation expenses for trekkers at high altitude.
We can do recommendation of insurance company in case of our help needed but we do not involve in sale of the insurance policy. policy. In case of emergency circumstances of our valued client, company put forward the travel documentation processing to insurance company based on your prior information submission details in order to assist in arranging rescue operation, and transfer to hospital for treatment.You are requested to send the details insurance information after you have booked the trek. Make sure your insurance company accepts the cost incurred for mountain rescue service even at the highest elevation of trek.
Passport and visa
All foreigners except Indians, require a visa to enter Nepal. Visa is available on arrival in the Tribhuvan international airport. Visa can be extended at the central immigration office www.immigratiion.gov.np The visa application will require at least a passport of 6 months’ validity, and a passport size photo. The current cost of visa fee is US $40 for 30 days which have to be paid in cash.
Citizens of China and the SAARC countries will receive free visa. There are certain countries (Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, and Afghanistan)that may not receive visa on arrival and so you will have to contact your local Nepalese embassy.
Money exchange is not a problem in Nepal as there are plenty of ATMs that accept foreign debit and credit card or privately exchange money. Thamel; a tourist hub is always open to exchanging money. During the trek, no ATM will be available so we suggest you to change your money to Nepalese rupees (NPR). Also, the government has banned INR 500 and 1000. You should ensure you are not carrying them as you may be fined if you are caught with it in the airport. You can also choose to exchange your money in banks. They may charge service fees depending on different banks. Also, please note that banks do not accept old, torn or faded foreign currency notes.
Your main luggage should not be over 20Kgs and they will be carried by our porters. Porters and Yaks will only accompany us till the trek they will leave our luggage with us at the base cam and leave us for a few days during the climbing period ,you will be responsible for your own luggage during the climb. Trekkers will carry a light back for easy access to water, camera, toilet paper and warm layers of clothes. During the climb the climbers must carry their own gears Any excess baggage can be kept at Discovery World Trekking and you can collect them after the trek.

For the expedition, we will be carrying all the necessary gears, equipments and first aid kits.We make sure to only carry the best equipments available in the market Our leaders and guides have vast knowledge and have extensive first aid training and you will be climbing with a Sherpa guide who has summited Island peak many times. We staff every base camp with medical doctor.If a participant's falls sick due to the altitude, it is entirely up to the leader to decide if he/she will further continue as health is very important. Every group will be together so that everyone is safe and won't wander off alone. We check in with our guided from the head office everyday to ensure the expedition is going on smoothly and safely.

It is recommended to carry the basic clothing and accessories needed for the trek. The followings are suggestions that should be brought, although we understand that our clients have their own preference of clothing. Porters will be carrying the main luggage which should not exceed more than 20kg. Equipment can be hired in Kathmandu as well.

We ask that trekkers and tour groups remove unnecessary packaging and store items in reusable containers.We believe we should leave the campsites in better condition than when we first arrive , free of rubbish.We encourage you not to pollute water source, with soap or rubbish wastage.All of our staff are trained to minimizes the water usage, by limited showers and always using water sparingly.We request our clients to bring water canisters to refill for boiled/treated water instead of buying bottled water.which you have to throw after drinking.

The most importantly, tipping is at travelers discretion and should be relied on good service that does not form the part of wages for your Guides, porters and crew although they are very much appreciated. In Nepalese culture, tip is the accepted and honored way to saying thank you (Dhanyabada) for good service. Normally the tips are offered at the end of the trek and this is best done as a group. It is also necessary to provide gratuities to the sherpas who lead you during the climb.Gratuities usually range from 200-500USD and are given after decending .Most groups will give the trips in farewell dinner on the last evening or last day of the trek, to mark the end of the trip. The amount of the trip is entirely a personal preference that may be more or less depending upon your perception of service quality, length of trip, budget and appreciation of their work. Discovery world trekking is a government authorized, registered, licensed and bonded as trekking and touring operator in Nepal. The company registered number is 87657/068/069. We are member of Trekking Agency Association of Nepal (TAAN), Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA). Therefore, book Discovery World Trekking trip with confidence as we are reliable.10 percent of payment in advance and other necessary documentations like passport copy, passport size photos, travel insurance policy, arrival and departure flight detailed can be made later but must not exceed within two weeks’ period from booking date. The number of domestic flights for Lukla is limited but being very busy during the trekking seasons. Payment is to be made by bank transfer ,western union and online payment directly from our website.. Remaining trip cost can be paid whether in cash or by bank transfer and credit card when your arrival in Nepal. Furthermore, we put forward necessary modes of payment details as per your convenient by mail.
After the completion of the trek, you may want to stay a couple of days extra in Nepal. With the free time, exploring, visiting a tour of Kathmandu, sightseeing, Nagarkot view trip, Chitwan jungle safari, paragliding, rafting, canoeing are such activities that can be done.

This grade trekking consists of elevation below 3000m. This type of trekking involves short duration at lower altitude along with several ways of ascent and descent trials. No previous hiking experience is required however trekking demands well fitness of physical conditions and duration of days involve both shorter and longer to complete overall trek. Trekkers need walking at least 5 to 6 hrs capabilities with longer ascent and descent trails through the involvement of some rough routes conditions. This level of trekking involves an altitude of above 3000m to 4500m below. Trekkers need to walk for 6-7 hrs daily at cross steep hilly terrain, rough round, some backpacking and high passes on some routes with daily ascent and descent. Trekking in the remote environment might be possibility of facing altitude problem in the higher elevation. Physical fitness is essential along with hill walking experience to enjoy trekking. Everest Base camp trek, Gokyo via Everest base camp trek, Gosainkunda trek, Helambu trek etc.
In this type of trekking at least 6-7 hrs per day walking require at high altitude with daily ascent and descent. The altitude of strenuous grade trek ranges between 4600m to 5600m. Altitude sickness problem is likely to happen at any time therefore high level of both mentally and physically fitness as well as stamina is considered to enjoy in such type of trip. Acclimatization or rest day is essential to adjust with low level of oxygen environment. We request the following in order to arrange permits and documents:
- A copy of your passport and travel/health insurance documents with contact details, three passport size photos.
- Please have a notepad and pen handy in order to note information regarding the upcoming trek/tour.
Additionally, we recommend that you maintain a separate photocopy of all important documents including traveler’s cheques and bank/ATM card contact numbers, international flight tickets, emergency contact numbers.
Please be advised: We recommend adding extra days in your itinerary as a safety margin for your return flight home. The air traffic from Kathmandu to Lukla, and then Lukla to Kathmandu is frequently behind schedule and these may cause onward delays. Sometimes flights get backed up for a days. In these circumstances, we will do our best to allay problems, and re-schedule flights to and from Lukla as available. However, we must caution you about the possibility of postponements of flights and even cancellations. We recommend that you schedule at least an extra 2 days cushion in your itinerary to avoid problems with international flights from Nepal. In the event of delays, we can arrange a helicopter at your request at a cost of around USD 500-1000 per person, depending on demand and capacity. It is also very likely that no delays will be incurred. In any case, we can arrange additional activities with your extra time in Nepal!
Please Note: The Island Peak climb includes fixed departure dates from Kathmandu and can be tailored to accommodate your specific requests and schedule. Please review our designated departure dates for this climb and if they do not suit your timeframe, then let us know how we can arrange a climb that is convenient for you. The itinerary listed above is a general guideline; please be advised that it might be necessary to modify it due to external factors beyond our means including and not limited to the following: unstable weather, accessibility and availability of lodging and campsites, unforeseen governmental, trail and ecological conditions and other circumstances beyond our control. In the event of an Itinerary adjustment or need to redirect to other trails and areas, the Lead Guide will ultimately make the final choice on the best rerouting after consulting with the group members and keeping in mind the interests of the party as a whole.
